Amazing Video Of King Air Gear Up Landing

Fri Dec 22, 2006 12:02 pm

Hey guys, i just found this video that i thought i would share, no sound however, but I really liked it, you could see the pilot feathering the props just before touchdown, as they are motionless when he stops. One thing though is it just me or does it look like CNN sped it up somewhat? Great landing though IMO...

What, no fire trucks around. Must've out of view.. Nice landing, though.

Nice, I'm surprised there were no sparks or anything though. Also, he looked like he was coming in rather fast, what's the reason for that?

Great piece of airmanship, the pilot(s) need commending for that. He never deviated from the centre line! Fantastic flying.

He was coming in fast because without the drag of the landing gear and full flaps (it looks like he had maybe only 10 degrees or so) the approach speed was much higher. Final approach spead in a Piper Seminole is 88kts, so a KingAir must have a normal approach speed of at least 100kts. Without full flaps and landing gear, it could have easily been 20-30kts faster, but Im not expert. Anyway, outstanding job for that pilot, the plane hardly looks damaged.

Kingairs have a pretty low stall speed the 200 has a stall speed of 75Knts full flaps and 99Knots with no flaps.

Very nice landing! Props (pun very much intended) to the pilot. Too bad he couldn't comply with LAHSO!  biggrin   duck

BTW, I didn't even see a spark or anything. Very good job.

I like the way one of the guys evacuates complete with bags in hand. "Take nothing with you".

Hmm.

It occurred at Fulton County Airport near Atlanta, GA, in November 2005. CNN's aired transcript is available here:

Ill put my money on the table and say that had it had happened at night, you would've seen the sparks...

Unless the king air has a composite belly, which I highly doubt.

Beautiful landing! It even looks like the engines wound down completely before touchdown. I really doubt that the aircraft received much damage.

Does a landing such as that damage the runway surface at all?
