I Need Help From A United Agent

Sat Dec 23, 2006 7:40 am

I'm a little frustrated because I've called the res center in India a couple hundred times and nobody can fix it.

United.com only asks you for a first and last name when you book. My MP account # has my first and middle name as well. As a result, the UA system doesn't believe I have any status and won't let me select an E+ seat or clear an upgrade for me for a flight tomorrow.

I always book through a travel agent for work, they always just use my first and last name, and I've never had this problem, but one time when they just forgot to put my MP number in the PNR a nice UA agent (in the United States) was able to force the PNR to accept my number even though they didn't match. The Indian res agents don't know how to do it, apparently.

Can anyone help me? I'm sure you're busy with the DEN problem but I think this is a quick fix.

Alternately, can anyone tell me a sure fire way to get an agent in the US that might be able to fix it?

Thx.

I have no doubt.

But I also have no doubt there are a variety that go to work at an airport with no or few Denver flights and no stranded passengers that would have 5 minutes to take a look at a fellow forum member's problem and be nice enough to do so.

A gate agent at DCA, for example, won't be spending all of their day working on rebooking passengers for Denver.

Thanks for your insight, however.

I doubt you're going to find an agent roaming the forums who can fix this (since they have to at work). Your best bet would be to arrive early and talk to an agent at the airport.

I don't work for UA but if I did, I would help!
I don't know if this will work wth US numbers, but
whenever I need to speak to someone in the UK, not India, I google the telephone number, and it USUALLY brings up a local tel number, UK Based.

Might be worth a go?

as for why this isn't an issue with your travel agency bookings, I can only guess that the name on your profile matches the name on your MP account, otherwise they'd get an error from the system and your MP number won't take. As for the issue at hand, a couple of ideas:

Want to avoid india? call international res, you won't get India. Most of the time International will be glad to help, even if the res is domestic, if they ask you why you called them and not domestic, just explain that you're trying to avoid india, they seem to understand that sentiment.

When you make reservations online, have you tried putting both your first and middle name in the box designated for your first name? like firstname space middle name.

Finally, unless you have a hypenanted first name like John-Paul or whatnot, try calling the UA milleage plus service center and have them take your middle name off the account. they should be able to do that and it might eliminate alot of headaches when it comes to trying to get the system to recognize your status and let you select economy plus seats online.

Thanks for all the friendly replies. I am going to get there way early tomorrow and hope someone can help.

For whatever reason the travel agency booings can put through whatever they want... my usual agent is amex but orbitz is the same way.

When you call the MP service desk... they want you to write in a letter to change your name. A little frustrating, but I may do that.

Thx again and I hope all the UA folks are doing OK during what have to be hectic times at work.

You could phone a Red Carpet Club outside the US. I don't think they would have a DEN crisis now.

If you are going to continue to book with a different name than on your mp account then change your mp account. You have to go to MP...do not go to the airport as they cannot change MP account info.

Try calling MPI. They can remove the middle name from your account and you can pin that to your record then.

Depending on your status, which I assume you have since you're looking for E+ it's been my experience lately that the Premier Exec # is generally answered by someone in the USA.

Other than that I thought you could add in your MP # during the check-in process online.

i have an upcoming travel too, portion of my trip is domestic, now i tried a trick, i called the premeir dedicated reservation line three times, and whenever i get transfered to domestic reservation, it didnt work. finally, i didnt put my information, i just said "Agent" then "international" and i was able to talk to someone. my advise is call international and tell them that you have been transfered to them, because : 1- either you couldnt understand the accent, or 2- it just transfered you there. they were very nice.

Call up the MP line and ask them for the premier number, there will still be a long hold time, but you will get through; last night it took me about 20 min to get through to get this exact problem fixed.

That is correct, in my experience. Or if that has been outsourced, those CSR's are far more competent that the normal CSR you get.

Please, they outsourced everything except few includes the travel agent desk.

Last time I called bmi and Delta, oh my gosh were they nice but really not sure what they're doing.

If name on Mileage Plus does not match, even if it's initial or the middle name, it'll be turned down.

Nice hotel. I was in Hong Kong last week on a 3 day trip. Imagine a massive meet of a.netters in HKG whilst the Asian Aerospace Exhibition is on.
