does anyone know when the dot is going to award the new china routes and which airline is likely to get them?

It is August. I hate to say this   it looks like UPS is going to get them. But Washington is deciding who gets them so it's a coin toss. American and Delta are front runners. With 2 American passenger carriers flying those routes now and flying them not full there is no need to award another passenger carrier the routes. Fed Ex is the only American cargo carrier that has rights to mainland China. They bought them from Evergreen some years ago and with the purchase of flying tigers.

With China entering the WTO the routes need to be awarded to a cargo carrier and give Fed Ex some competition. UPS already stated that they inted to charge on a average of 37% less than Fed Ex to and from China.
