PK And IAH

Tue Dec 26, 2006 9:10 am

So anyone care to speculate when PK will officially dump IAH? As most here are aware, PK "temporarily suspended" flights to IAH this past Oct, due in large part to the EUs ban of PK's 747 fleet. The PK signs are still up at IAH and checking the PIA web site, Houston is still listed as one of their US gateways.

I am interested in any and all opinions

The PK747 fleet is almost back to steam...now that they are getting their 773ER's, some of the older 747's will be out for good.

I doesn't really seem if PK can do anything with IAH right now...they never really put an effort on that route, and once EK comes along (whenever), it will basically be the end of that route for PK (i.e.-they won't even bother to think to restart).

Only a 2x/weekly B787 would do well on that route..and that would be tough also..

Indeed it is well known that PK put nothing into marketing this service. That said, was this the sole reason for PK's failure in Houston or was there something more? Seeing that ORD (which stated around the same time if memory serves) seems to be doing fairly well. Is it safe to assume that the Chicago received the same level of marketing as Houston? If that is the case I have to wonder if rotten marketing was the only reason for PK's poor loads from IAH.

Is PK looking at the 787?

I just don't think the market is there right now..the route has always performed poorly....now I don't know too much on the cargo end..

I pretty much suspected as much.

On a side note, there were reports in the local media (Houston Chronicle) that Customs and Immigration at IAH were allegedly giving passengers arriving on these flights more scrutiny and in some cases a hard time, so much so that a member of Houston's Pakistani business community was advising that Pakistani nationals avoid Houston and enter via JFK or ORD. I don't know if there was a boycott of the service but if true, it may have made Houston look bad.

thats quite a shame. there are many Pakistani immigrants in the houston area and I am sure they would love to fly PK back home to visit family, i don't think they should be given a hard time. And of course, if the pax are getting a tough time, they'd rather fly from other airports, like you mention.

I can't believe the loads are light from IAH..i thought the flights would be going full, but i guess i was wrong. So what routes are good for them besides JFK and maybe ORD??? They do serve YYZ, right?? Hows this route for them?

Come to think of it, I recall hearing about that too...what a bummer if true!

Yes..they were unfortunately doing poorly @ IAH......ORD is doing well....YYZ is quite strong with the -200LR services in both directions.

Indeed if true, in part it may have cost Houston a route and made the city look, well..redneck.

I've always heard good things about HOU (besides the fact when they basically booed the Houston Oilers out..but that's a different story now that they have the Houston Texans)...

Regardless, even if it wasn't for the possible harassing of pax by immigration, I don't think the route would have done well anyway.....

....agree.. checkmark ...but I'm sure you wouldn't mind seeing a PK flight arrive @ IAD.... Wink

...like HOU however, the market really isn't there.... Sad

Other than Chicago and New York, the only market I see with PK in the United States right now is LAX....I think LAX can support a 2x/weekly flight..in fact, I would like to see it LAX-MAN/LHR-Pakistan....or possibly LAX-China-Pakistan...

You can say that again  Wink but its not happening.

I agree that LAX might be a good route for PK via shanghai  Smile
