Bill Me Later By Some Airlines

Thu Dec 28, 2006 2:55 am

What do you all think of the service called Bill me later? I know Usairways provides it. I am not sure what other airlines provide it. Is it a good service? Or is it a rip off?

I've recently used the service to buy an airline ticket on USAirways and so far I haven't enountered any problems. I actually don't have to make a payment until Feburay because they had a 90 days no payment offer. I know Airtran also allows you to use the service on their website.

AA has its own credit card that carries no payments & no interest for 6 months on tickets >$200, and no payments & no interest for 90 days on tickets <$200.

Info is here: http://www.aa.com/content/travelInfo...JMLU1C2QBFFSWVMD?anchorEvent=false

There's no fee if you pay it off before 30 days...or at least i would imagine that to be the case.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

Is it not like using a regular credit card, without the 90 day grace period? Also, if one makes use of this service from various airlines, the credit report/history would take a hit, each time an airline queries it prior to approval. Non?

the program that the airlines run are the same as the 90 days same as cash at a furniture store or best buy. You have to pay off the debt before the 90 days otherwise you have to pay all the interest that started from day one. Basically the company that administers that will pull your credit and see if you qualify for it.

Correct, but make that the program the airlines use. It's just another financing option, offered by many online industries, not just airlines. I've never tried it 'cause I'm not sure how they would handle problems between booking and the last segment. I know if I book with my credit card, all I need to bring is my credit card and I can make any necessary changes (upgrades, emergency cancellations or diversions, etc...) and it's all on one statement. I just don't see a benefit. Maybe I'm missing something, but 90 days interest free just doesn't clinch me.

We like to call that the true meaning of a credit card  Smile

The only difference about credit cards is that you have a balance that needs to be paid monthly....This....this is almost extortion in the most legal way possible....

Think about it.... I do something for you...I tell you to promise to pay me back later....You pay me back through hell or high water...

I work for Bill Me Later, and hopefully this will help clarify some of the questions… Bill Me Later is a fast and easy way to pay online without using your credit card, so it’s very secure. Rising travel costs and the fear of revealing credit card info online are stalling the travel plans of more would-be travelers than ever. Bill Me Later gives you greater flexibility, enabling you to enjoy your trip today and pay later. Plus, many airlines and other merchants that offer Bill Me Later provide customers with special financing offers such as no payments for 90 days. As for checking in for your flight and making changes, all you ever need is your ID or confirmation number. You can learn more about travel merchants and retailers that offer Bill Me Later at www.billmelater.com.

Wouldn't the people (like my Grandmother) who are afraid to give their credit card information out online, be the same people that still book by calling the reservation number?

I use it on CO often. I like the service especially living overseas and having a US APO box which messes up credit cards and bookings. Bill-me-later is a bit better at such things.

The only problem I encountered with BML was with air tran when I couldnt get refunded for a cancelled ticket (that qualified for a refund) I had to get a travel voucher (used it 2 weeks later anyway)

That's actually not true, it is like an online credit card they check your credit once and that's it, as long as you pay you can use it at any one of there many online vendor's. It's great!
