SkyWest Airlines Continues Coast to Coast Expansion

Wednesday December 27, 5:11 pm ET

Airline Offers Career Options Across the Nation and Opportunities to See the World

ST. GEORGE, Utah, Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyWest Airlines, a subsidiary of SkyWest Inc. (Nasdaq: SKYW - News), and the nation's largest independently owned regional carrier, announced that the airline will host recruiting sessions throughout the country to aid in its coast-to-coast expansion for 2007. The announcement comes at a pivotal time in SkyWest's history. The airline will celebrate its 35th Anniversary in June 2007, and last week announced an additional code share with Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines to begin service in April of 2007.

Currently, the airline operates more than 1,600 daily flights across the country as a Delta Connection carrier from SkyWest's largest hub in Salt Lake City, and as United Express along the West Coast and from its Denver and Chicago O'Hare hubs.

"With our new Midwest partnership, there will be obvious recruitment needs in Milwaukee and Kansas City," Necia Clark-Mantle, SkyWest Airlines vice president - people explained, "although our operation is growing throughout the country. We've seen unique growth and are looking to hire in our ski and winter destinations including Aspen, Denver and Salt Lake."

The company hired a record 4,000 employees in 2006. "We know that companies across the country are looking for quality team members," Clark- Mantle continued, "and so we have to be competitive with our pay packages, health benefits, stock purchase and 401(k) plans. One thing that sets SkyWest apart is our 'Performance Rewards' incentive program, which is tied to our operational goals. We're unique because we share those financial rewards with our employees. But I think it's the travel privileges that really get people excited about their work."

SkyWest Airlines employees have access to Delta Air Lines and United Airlines' route structures, as well as a myriad of hotel, cruise lines, rental car agencies and resort discounts. "We have employees who fly to Santa Barbara for lunch, New York for the day, or London for the weekend," Clark- Mantle continued. "We're in a distinctive position. Many companies say they'd like to give employees the world, but on some level, we can. In essence, we'll take you there! Not only to travel destinations, but also with career opportunities."

SkyWest Airlines holds open house and recruiting sessions throughout the country for flight attendants, pilots, customer service agents and mechanics. For a complete schedule of events and to apply online, visit www.skywest.com/careers/.

SkyWest Airlines was named the Number One On-Time Mainland Airline in the United States by the Department of Transportation for 2005, 2004 and 2003, years in which they carried more than 40 million passengers. System-wide, SkyWest has more than 10,000 employees and serves a total of 133 cities in 38 states and five Canadian provinces with more than 1,600 daily departures.

Seams as if Jerry Atkin and his crew feel confident that OO can survive even if the merger from hell succeeds. Keep in mind HP/US is a big user of Mesa, and I think they would find ways for them to expand at SkyWest's expense in such a scenario. Hopefully OO will start moving the EMB-170/175 direction sooner rather than later.

Keep in mind that OO does not, and never has, flown for HP/US.

He is obviously not speaking of anyone that actually works at headquarters in SGU! I wonder how many more qualified candidates would apply for HDQ jobs if their travel benefit didn't require fighting for a seat on a handful of Brasilias just to reach a hub to go somewhere else, or driving to LAS.
Ask why..

His contract with DL would likely survive a merger since the contract has already been affirmed by the BK court. The real loser in a merger would be Comair.

Seems like OO is more committed to the CRJ program with more CRJ900's coming on-line in 2007.

Doug Parker is such a two timing manipulative prick he will do everything possible to get out of these since he knows he can get a cheaper deal from Mesa. Comair is DOA, and will likely be liquidated at a fire-sale if they can't be fixed in the next 60 days. They are already going by piece by piece.

For the moment the CRJ-9 is coming on line, but Atkin has made very clear he intends to get the EMB-170/175 in the OO fleet. How he intends to do it is still to be seen, but he wants it as part of his regional carriers future

Yes, it said On-Time Mainland Airline. Hint, the word Mainland. It wasn’t fair for Hawaiian to gain the Number One title compare its operation to other Mainland carriers operation. HA only had a handful of flights into the Mainland U.S. Compare to SkyWest 1,600 daily flights and other U.S. carriers 1,500 plus flights daily.
