New Pics Of DL's B767-400 W/ BE

Sat Dec 30, 2006 1:43 am

On 12/23/06 I flew on DL9736 from LAX to ATL. Here are a few pics of this newly (and so far the only) reconfigured B767-400 in Business Elite.

This is N838MH.

Looks pretty nice, but nonetheless, I will take the liberty to ask what certain users are guaranteed to ask, not that I give a damn though. "Where are the PTVs?"  Silly .
Btw, how did you manage to end up on a 9XXX flight? Charter or equipment sub?

The PTVs are in the armrest on the front of the seats.

This flight 9736 was added to the schedule due to demand for the holiday. According to the lead FA, it had just come out of the refurb shop the day before...I believe my flight was the 3rd or 4th revenue flight using this a/c. All of the first flights were domestic between LAX and ATL.

If you click on the link provided and look through the rest of the slide show, you will see them. Hvae no fear, the PTV's are there.

Very nice. I like the graphics on the GP map on the PTV.

I wonder why they don't just start putting in the new BE seats that will be on the 777LRs they are getting in the next year. The seats exist already so do now and work out the kinks before putting them across the fleet.

That looks pretty good. I was on N831MH last November on a flight from ATL-LAX and the Business Class was pathetic. It hardly rated coach. Glad to see that they are considering their customers a bit more.

will this be the international config???
I am surprised that they went with leather seats. Are they really that comfortable on a long flight????

Yes, this will be the international config.

I like the leather. The seats themselves are not comfortable yet because the cushions are not worn in. It actually felt like sitting on a park bench since its so new.

IMO, no. It was virtually the same as the existing 763 BE seat, although, it didnt feel to reline as much and my footrest did not come up very high due to the proximity of the seat in front of me.

The 764s don't have AVOD either. That won't come around until the newer seats are installed on the 777 fleet or you get one of the domestic 757s with PTVs/AVOD. Perhaps we will see it on the 757s coming from AA but I don't remember at this time.

Why the surprise? Lots of carriers use leather on legs much longer than DL flies with their planes. If the cabin is properly cooled then leather poses no problems at all.

That would be domestic First Class and not Business. If it was tagged Business on the ticket it might have been because it was the continuation of an international flight coming from overseas. DL's front cabin is no different to me than any of the other legacy airline offerings IMO in most cases.

Despite the narrowness of the seat it is worlds better than sitting in the back. The 764s in DL's fleet have PTVs up front plus more pitch. I'll take one of those seats any day over sitting in the back of a JetBlue plane.

Interesting. I thought they were just continuing to use the same system they had previously when in a domestic configuration.

The old system was a Rockwell-Collins system, the new system is a Panasonic system. The new system features AVOD. There are a few 767-300ERs with this new system in BusinessElite, and soon the 777s will get this system in both classes.

For those looking for a picture of the economy section, it was posted on a previous thread. For those who don't want to look for it, here it is (the quality is poor as it was taken on a camera phone):

Sorry to bump, but what I have recently found interesting is the IFE remote. On the previous thread, ATLFlyer stated that in economy class, all passenger controls (including volume, reading lights, and call button) are done on on-screen on the PTV. I guess that economy class does not feature the remote.

BTW, the remote is NOT the same as the domestic 767-400ERs. The remotes on the new Panasonic system features a larger display that is either LED or VFD, rather than the LCD displays on the Rockwell-Collins system. The buttons are of a more modern style as well.

the screens are touch as well in BE on the 764. Given the distance, they naturally have to have a remote.

Great Improvement over the ridiculously tight First Class the 764ER were delivered with. This is an airplane Delta can compare favorably with other international airlines.

Slightly off topic but how much would a seat like this cost? I think I noticed some buttons presumably for electric seat adjustment?

I am not crazy about the looks of these seats,
the covers look loose like they are covering up
old seats...reminds me of the covers they have
for car seats..kind of cheesy. maybe it's just the
pictures...probably look better in person.

I agree. In fact, the back of the seats especially, looks like Delta had too much excess fabric and tightly had to pack it in. They could have gone for a cleaner more modern look.

None the less, it's a great improvement. I have been hesitant to fly Delta for a while again but it looks like they are moving in the right direction  Smile

This is N838MH.

Slightly off topic, by why does the registration end with MH rather than DL? I've seen several Delta jets with the MH registration here in Atlanta.

I have to say that even though I don't hold Delta in particularly high regard, the BE product isn't bad. The seats are much too narrow in the 767 2-2-2 configuration, but the pitch is superb. FAs tend to be very, very attentive, the wines better than those on several other carriers, CO included. I wish them luck. With some major efforts, we the flying public may actually get a superior product coming out of Atlanta sometime in the future.

All of Delta's 767-400s have a registration number that ends in MH. Many of Delta's other newest aircraft have registration numbers that do not end in DL, DA, DN, DE, or DZ. Many 737-800s, as well as a few of the newest 757s and 767-300ERs, have registration numbers that end in a random single letter or a number with all digits.
