BKK Connections

Sat Dec 30, 2006 10:10 pm

I'm soon booking to fly LHR-USM via BKK. I'm booking the flights with EVA air and Bangkok air separately. I have never done this before so have a few questions.

Do i have to recheck my bags at BKK or can i check them all the way to USM from LHR?

Also how long would i need to leave at BKK to get the connecting Flight. I suppose this depends on if i have to check in again. It seems that at 3:30 the airport is busy with European flights so would there be big queues at immigration ?

Thanks

I would not recommend buying two separate tickets. Trying making the whole trip (LHR-BKK-USM) as one reservation. This is because if your LHR-BKK flight is delayed, or cancelled and you miss your connection, you will be protected as Eva Air will be obliged to rebook/reroute so you reach USM.

If you can, try booking something like this:

LHR - BKK TG917 Depart: 21:35 Arrive: 15:55 +1
BKK - USM TG277 Depart: 17:15 Arrive: 18:30
USM -BKK TG278 Depart: 19:15 Arrive: 20:25
BKK - LHR TG910 Depart: 00:35 Arrive: 06:20

Or try booking the Eva Air flight and Bangkok Air flight all one reservation/one ticket.

Immigration upon arrival and departure at Survarnbhumi have been incredibly quick on my five trips through there, compared to Don Muang. Even baggage claim has been very efficient on my trips.

The bigger issue will be if you have to clear immigration, claim bags and check back in with Bangkok Air because of split ticketing. Your issue would probably be the line for checking in rather than immigration in/out or baggage.

Despite some 'new airport hiccups', the airport really is great.

Safe Travels!

Very good to hear. On my March trip to HKT the airline that I was flying discontinued service from TPE to HKT and I was rerouted thru BKK, which they stated required a minimum 2 hr layover. Rechecking bags on another carrier, I would think require at least another hour if not two.

By selecting LHR- USM (rather than booking it seperately) the booking added around £400 on expedia and other sites.

Ive just booked the Eva flight seperate(before reading these comments), I will allow 3 hrs at BKK, hopefully will be enough.

Thanks for the help  Smile

As far as I know there is no interline between BR and PG. Try to get yourself a ticket on bangkokair.com as they have Promotion Fares too and it is worth to
wait an hour more for a 50US$ Saving (IMHO). Flights to USM leave every hour, so it is not a big issue. Give yourself 90 to 120 mins and your transfer will be a breeze. (I managed it in 45min...). PG Staff are very friendly and
always try to make everything possible. Happy Travels and enjoy Thailand.
