When Will DL Finish Reconfiguring The 763ERs?

Mon Jan 01, 2007 2:39 am

Hi, I just got back from a trip to Cape Town on Delta and SAA. I flew DL to JNB and SAA to CPT. On the way to JNB I was delighted to see we got the reconfigured Business class with a higher foot rest, newer seat covers, and AVOD. On the way back, I was disappointed to see I'd have to put up with the outdated Business Elite for about 19 hours. I would like to know a specific date as to when the reconfigurations would be done. Also, as a side note, it would be nice if someone could tell me when the reconfigurations of the 738's will start.

I previously asked, and did not get a response. Last June, there were eight 767-300ERs with the updated BusinessElite; all of them were formerly in domestic configuration. I do not know how many there are now. There is also currently one 767-400ER with the new BusinessElite. I think that Delta will go after the 767-400ERs first. Delta will also be getting ex-TWA 757s for low-yield transatlantic routes, and they will feature four rows of the updated BusinessElite.

Any idea on where the ex-TWA 757's will be deployed to? I understand that there has been mention of Caribbean and Latin America, but does anyone have specific destinations?

Regards.

They will be used on lower-yield transatlantic routes where a 767-300ER is too large. They are also stated to be used on some lesser Hawaii routes, such as SLC-KOA and LAX-OGG.

What would those low-yield routes be? I taste JFK-AMS/CDG/FRA/DUB?
If they launch these 752s, I'll be sure to paste an ad where Delta emphasizes they only use wide-bodies across the atlantic.. unlike a certain Texas based competitor :]

No way! CDG, AMS, FRA, and DUB deserve the 763 no doubt. I am thinking MAD, SNN, a new market in the UK such as NCL, and maybe BRU.

I would think maybe even JFK-GLA, although I would rather see EDI moved from ATL and put from JFK, and then DL to start ATL-GLA with the 763ER!!! DL to GLA PLEASE!!! (but make it from ATL!)

Look for a change on the DL ATL-JNB flight coming up in the next month or so!

It appears that BOM is going to shut down one of their runways for resurfacing like ATL just did in October. The JFK-BOM will have to be a
one-stop flight and probably be switched to a B763.

That would mean possibly the ATL-JNB could become a B777 and maybe a non-stop!

Yeah but I'm pretty sure the 777ER can't make ATL-JNB non-stop.

Out of topic, how is working the Dakar (DKR) station for DL and the Senegalese market from and to ATL and from and to South Africa?
Good performance? Great loads?
Are they assisted by AF at Dakar Airport?

I have flown on both the new and old configurations and cannot honestly say there was enough of a difference between the two where I would be 'delighted' to fly on one and 'disappointed' that I would have to 'put up' with the other for my flight. The product is still very nice either way.

Jeez, you make it sound like they swapped you out for an MD-88 on your return!

From ATL to DKR about 40 got off.
From DKR to JNB 2 got on.
From JNB to DKR about 10 got off.
From DKR to ATL about 5 got on.

Sorry, but IMHO, AVOD is a must on a flight that long. Especially after you have been teased on the inbound where you had it.
