Question About Buying Used Equipment

Tue Jan 02, 2007 9:55 am

Do airlines ever sign contracts with other airlines and leasing firms in order to get priority on buying used equipment? For example, 757s and MD-11s are becoming more and more valuable to cargo airlines, but they are also getting harder to come by. So I would think that companies like UPS and FedEx would probably want to get a jump on their competitors when it comes to getting their hands on valuable used equipment.

That depends on the airline selling the aircraft. They may put out feelers to see who may want the aircraft. I know AA did this when they wanted to get rid of their MD-11s. FedEx bid the best price for these airplanes, so they and AA set up a delivery schedule.
