Pegasus Orders A350XWB And A330

Fri Jan 05, 2007 1:09 am

AIRBUS PRESS RELEASE

PEGASUS AVIATION FINANCE COMPANY ORDERS TWO A350XWB AND SIX A330-200s

US based aircraft lessor Pegasus Aviation Finance Company has signed a firm contract for two A350XWBs and six A330-200s. The order is the first for the A350XWB since it was officially launched in November 2006 and marks a renewed vote of confidence in the aircraft from a US based customer.

The contract was signed in December 2006 and marks Pegasus’ first-ever direct order with Airbus.

“We are thrilled to add the A350 and A330 to our aircraft range,” said Richard S. Wiley, Pegasus Aviation Finance Company CEO and President. “We pride ourselves in offering our customers the most modern and technologically advanced aircraft on the market and the A350XWB strengthens this reputation. We have also been a strong supporter of the A330 program, particularly in Asia and are delighted to have six more A330s in our portfolio to meet the requirements of our global customers and serve as a nice complement to our future A350XWB deliveries.”

San Francisco based Pegasus was formed in 1988 and is one of the world's largest commercial aircraft lessors, with a fleet of over 200 aircraft.

“We are delighted that Pegasus has chosen Airbus aircraft as a critical component for its future growth. In the A350XWB, they have not only ordered an aircraft that is the world’s most technologically advanced and efficient, it’s also a generation ahead of the current competition and a step ahead of the future competition. We are also proud that Pegasus has also opted for the A330-200. The aircraft offers very low operating cost per seat as well as the widest and most comfortable cabin in its class,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers.

The A350XWB is a completely new aircraft design based on the latest technology and lightweight materials. It has been designed to meet airline needs of greater fuel efficiency due to higher fuel prices as well as rising passenger expectations and increasing environmental concerns.

The A330-200 is the aircraft of choice for many operators and is the unquestioned leader in its class with a commanding market share and a continually expanding operator base. Its proven record of superior economics and passenger comfort provides the operator with a significant competitive advantage in today’s market.

With close to 1,100 orders and 86 operators, the Airbus A330/A340/A350XWB Family is the world’s most modern long-range family available today.

So is Pegasus a leasing corp? If so, maybe US Airways can sneak some of those.

I expect they got a very good price on their A330s by way of compensation for the A380 delays. Oh wait...  wink

Although the A330 is a great aircraft it is also the only choice when you want a fuel efficient aircraft in this segment within a few years.

Oh, they can and will.

The 350 is part of a family (doesn't share parts, but so what) when it suits them, but all new when it suits them.

Just a more extreme example of the 737. Boeing calls the 737NG new and it's own family, but also counts it's sales added to the 737 when it wants to talk about the total sales of that family...

Congratulations to Airbus and Pegasus.

What a nice order to help finish off 2006. I'm even more pleased to read that the A330 has gathered another 6 orders. 2006 has proved to be a wonderful year for the A330 program.

But the 737 Classic is a lot closer to the 737NG with regard to "family status" than the A330 is to the A350XWB. Including the XWB in the A330/A340 family mix is really a stretch.

If thats a family, than I'd say the 787/777 is the worlds most modern modern long-range family available today.

Keesje hit the nail on the head. The 330, just like the 777NGs are in a great position for today. How the world will look in 6 years... all just educated guesses.

checkmark  the games both manufacturers will play to get the numbers to line up the way they want to.

cheers.

Or is it the first widebody order of 2007? (The Jet Airways 787 order was signed in December 2006.)

And do I sniff an RR win here...?

When these A330 will be delivered?

Mexicana is currently Pegasus's customer. I'm not sure, but a couple of MX 767 in not very good shape are Pegasus owned, so maybe these new A330 could be good replacements.
