Delta Leaving BQN!

Sat Jan 06, 2007 6:41 am

I hearfd DL is leaving BQN on the 20th of Jan. Is it true? They werent doing that well, but you know the problem really was in PR DL was never advertised correctly in this route, perhaps thats why they kinda' did bad. Also, their departure times. Most pax leaving out of BQN will be a connex pax and by the arrival time at ATL there are literally no more connections to most Places! Some of them are just south florida, NY or BOS with midnight arrivals!

I think they could have solve their problem by changing those departure times, and advertising!! Most pple did not even know DL was at BQN and always shopped for B6 or CO!! Lets see what they come up to.

Cheers Yall!

Yes. Flights to Aguadilla and Ponce are ending 20 January. More from last month's discussion on the topic:

The aircraft they used, the CRJ-700, simply wasn't the right aircraft for the route. Every other airline at BQN used larger aircraft. The CRJ-700 wasn't able to handle the necessary amount of cargo. Once Delta gets their 737-700s, we may see them return to BQN.

I doubt it will be back. There really isn't a significant difference between having used a 73G or a 738 that would make the route suddenly viable. If anything, Delt a has the perfect plane for this market already, the E70, and they decided that instead of using an E70 (like they will on the struggling Atlanta-Kingston route) they are ending the route.

The fact is that it is a heavy VFR market, and these aren't working well from Atlanta, as we have seen with Kingston, Ponce, Managua, Santiago de Los Caballeros, and other less than stellar performers.

Before you posted i didn't even know DL flew to BQN. They fly at a much better time than B6 and CO and it suprises me that they can't even fill a CRJ. Is there a reason for B6 and CO arriving like 3 and 4

I think he meant bags... those Large ethnic bags.

While BQN might have been a soft performer from ATL, the choice of equipment and its lack of belly capacity did not help things either I am sure.

This is one reason I am anxiously waiting to see how DL makes out with its LAX-Mexico RJ flying, a market that has seen several previous failures trying to use RJs on heavily ethnic routes going up against mainline jets.

The thing is CO has been in BQN for 7yrs now, and they are doing awsomely good. B6 has been there for around 2yrs or so, And now they have 3 flights per day 2 JFK and 1 MCO. Its all in the advertisement!!! Because even jetBlue is advertised all over. I was sure that BQN route would have been good. But their departure time out of BQN was bad because of their connections. Not necessarily the A/C even though there is a lot of Cargo in and out of BQN.

DL...advertise....are you joking.....same problem here in BZE.....and somewhere else it was mentioned that it is ditto for MID too...they NEVER advertise .....unlike CO.....passengers here in BZE don't even know they exist.
