Bad Experience On QR

Sun Jan 07, 2007 10:31 pm

Hi everyone,
After all I had read and heard on Qatar Airways, I was really looking forward to flying with them on January the 4th on CDG-DOH-DXB...well I was very disappointed with trip, as just about everything went wrong. To be fair with QR though, I must admit everything weren't their fault..
Starting with the check-in in CDG. Too bad for QR, they're flying from Terminal 1, which looks pretty much like a third world country terminal. Although not QR's fault, I think having a structural chaotic check in has a negative impact on the airline's image, especially for business passengers...and I waited in line for about 1h15...
Then their was a 1h + delay because of the 330-300's late arrival...Boarding was then again extremely chaotic for they were many families with children.
I finally boarded the plane only to realize that the counter agent, who had ensured me she had given me a aisle seat (in absence of available window seat), had in fact assigned me with a central seat.
I was quick to realize that this wasn't going to be a quiet trip as the aircraft was litterally JAM-PACKED with babies and small children. In fact it turned out to be the noisiest flight I have ever experienced.
But that would have been nothing without my small PTV problem. After all I read and heard about QR inflight entertainment system, I was eagerly awaiting to enjoy it myself...unfortunately, in my case, it didn't work. And the only thing the crew did was to "reset my seat", which didn't help. They could easily have switched me with someone else who wasn't using his/her PTV, and for instance help my neighbor be joined by her husband who slept all the time and didn't even switch his tv set on...but they didn't. Not that they were unfriendly, just not helpful and cooperative: passive.
Then the food: in my case, smaller portions than on Emirates, quality was just average...
Once in DOH, I must say the small size of the airport makes it quite convenient for connecting. Unfortunately the flight to DXB was late again due to our waiting the last passengers for the LHR flight to board our A320...the pilot was really nice though and "entertained" us with a lot of interesting information about the flight, the reason for our delay, QR's fleet etc... but is was already 3:00am and apart from me, many passengers would have preferred to sleep than being "entertained" Big grin
Well, I finally made it to DXB about 2hrs behind schedule and then, but that is certainly not QR's fault, waited another hour and a half for my luggage...

I don't think I will fly QR in the near future again. As a relatively regular DXB-CDG flyer, EK's product is much more faster and I have never been disappointed by their service nor have I experienced delays...
Oh, one thing: yes, the seating pitch is definitely better on QR!

QR do seem to be a little patchy when it comes to service. 3 of my 4 flights with them in economy class were excellent in just about every aspect. 1 of them was appalling in just about every aspect. I too had a problem with my IFE system. It crashed while I was using it. The crew kept forgetting to reset it. When 3hrs later they had reset it, it still didn't work.

Yes I agree the recaro seats on QR are very nice and in good shape, however if you are lucky enough to have 3 or 4 seats and want to lay down then you are unable to raise the arm rests enough to comfortably lay down, maybe its designed to be that way.

Gulf states airlines are overrated i flew EK (never again) and GF (18h delay, suppose to fly KUL-MCT, Plane continue to BAH), as soon as we took off we were told MCT is closed so we will go to BAH.
As for the jammed baby this is typical with gulf states especially now when people returning from christmas holidays.
I am trying Ethihad next month hope all will go well

Ive heard rave reviews of AFs Y class inflight product on the B 772s and A 332s that fly the CDG-DXB route nonstop so why dont u next time try AF.

Their seat pitch too in Y is bigger than EKs!  Wink

when i wrote Y class I meant economy class and not a full fare in economy class i.e. Y class fare.

The lowest AF fare should be booked in L class usually...check with a local travel agency...fares should be in the range of USD 400-600 max round trip all taxes inclusive.

Sounds about right. If you have miles, you can most definitely get it lower.

Yeah, maybe I exagerated a bit, but that's because I'm so frustrated not to have the special "young" fares anymore (for those younger than 25...)  cry
And for the same price, I'd fly Emirates for the simple reason that I'd earn more miles with skywards than with Flying Blue, all things being equal..

Gulf carriers did offer world-class products but no more.

Gone are the days of the heavily advertised "royal experience" one expected from flying EK, GF, QR... Today, these airlines are slowly but surely becoming the victims of their own success and it will not be long before many people switch back to their "old" carriers of choice.

EK and QR in particular are loosing many loyal passengers - not because they are utterly bad, but because they raise pax expectations soooo much with their admittedly excellent advertising and promotions that novice pax expect first class economy class (and end up being disappointed), while their frequent passengers continue to compare the "now" to the bygone years (and they too end up disappointed).

Quite a shame really.
