So when's the EDI flight expected to start? Will it be a code-share with LX?

Isn't SQ coming with the 773 now instead of the 744?

Given that they're both *A that's pretty likely. Having said that LX and LO don't codeshare.

Quoting DeltaWings (Reply 4):

They had an item on DRS3 this morning (Swiss Radio) interviewing a spotter while the last SQ 744 landed. It was quite a long item (about 2-3 minutes) and included the sound of her going over. It's a shame, even though I'm an A fan I quite like the 744.

An LX codeshare would make sense - help to fill the flight up and provide access for EDI passengers to another European hub

Deltawings - as far as I know, SQ will no longer continue on to MAN. It will just be a SIN-ZRH routing. I also have liked to have flown ZRH-MAN on the jumbo but never made it  Sad

Of course I have been. I flew on a MH 777 ZRH-KUL-ZRH. I admit that the 777 is an excellent aircraft but I don't like it very much. Specifically from the looks. It looks like a fat sausage. The 744 is much more elegant and classic and a four holer!

Also Thai is said to bring back the 744 to ZRH on selected dates, but I do not remember when it will happen...

Last weeks TravelInside had a report on Oasis cheap flights to HKG, and that they are looking to Zurich for possible flights from 2008 on...the same issue had a report on the rumored EOS flights NYC-ZRH too, but these flights are still not confirmed...

What about Jet Airways? I have heard that Zurich is on their short list? Any news here? Thanks

the unique looks of the 744 might be appealing from a spotter's point of view, as well as for the laymen up on the visitors terrace. I even agree to that, those old whales are beautiful and unique to watch.

But having flown both aboard an SQ 744 and an SQ 773 - not even one of the new ones - last year when I did ZRH - SIN - AUK and back, the only thing I can say is there are worlds inbetween the two in terms of cabin comfort and appeal. No pax will shed a tear for the noisier, more cramped and older looking 744 cabin once he's been inside the airy, modern, spacious 773...

Cheers, Lukas

As reported on another topic, JAL is stopping operations to ZRH, sadly a long time ZRH operator is gone....Swiss will be happy....

A new charter company for Zurich from the summer timetable on is Bulgarian Air Charter with a weekly flight on Saturday.

From yesterdays "Zürcher Unterländer":

SQ is thinking of a second daily flight to ZRH and even don't rule out the A380 to operate some flights....

Mind where would they put it? The only place I can think of is at the end gates on the E dock, they seem to have a bit more room than the ones along the side. And will ZRH put a double decker bridge in to service the beastie?

At the moment two gates at dock E are A 380 ready. They could even add a third bridge if required (two for the main-deck, one for the upper-deck). They are the most south-east and north-west gates at dock E. So Zurich is absolutely ready for the A 380. The runways and taxiways are no problem of course.

At the moment they don't have enough aircrafts for taking over this route. They have to wait until they get their new 343s.

That really doesn't make any sence if this flight is not operated by the inbound flight from DEL. 1h30mins would be the minimum they should calculate for a turnaround. Looks like they didn't think that far yet that flights terminate in ZRH. Would be nice for LX to operate the DEL route but for that the A330 from OS would've been necessary as he 3 A340's seem to be planned in already for frequency increase and the introduction of the China flights I gues?!?

The ... taxiways are no problem of course.

This is NOT correct.
Especially the taxiways in the south are not A380 compliant (makes it impossible for an A380 to get to RWY34 for departure or to land on RWY16 to vacate E6 or later - except for backtracks). Even in the north the service streets around taxiways C and D are too close to allow sufficient wing clearance for an A380.

And there are a good number of further small and bigger problems still in the way for a regular A380 service into ZRH.

This is information from the ZRH-A380-planning manual and it has not yet been decided by the operator of the airport if the money will be invested to upgrade ZRH for regular A380 service or only as alternate.

Greetings,
KA.

Looks like we will not see an A380 of SQ or EK to fast in ZRH. Well well, let the A380 first get airborne into comercial service. But maybe by 2010 we will see the one or the other of those birds in ZRH, would be nice.
