How Long Will The 737 Remain In US Airways Fleet?

Mon Jan 08, 2007 7:06 am

Please correct me if Im wrong (My knowledge may not be correct)...

But before US Airways and America West merged they both placed large orders for Airbus A320 family aircraft to replace their ageing 733 and 734 fleets.

Even though both airlines have taken delivery of a large number of Airbus they continue to fly over 120 737's, and these are some of the first 737-300/400's devliered. Their outstanding order of A320's is not enough to replace all the 737's and was wondering if there were any plans for this ageing fleet?

I do however notice a number of 737's are being painted in the new colours (and look very smart too!), so I assume will be going no where soon... Will they give them a makeover on the inside? - As the ones I have flown on (in the US Airways fleet), look very tired and worn.

As a FA for America West US Airways based in PHX. As far as I know the 737's are saying in the fleet. I know on the AWA 737's they need makeovers too but I don't think they are going to give them any makeovers.

The management has repeatedly stated in the past 6 months that they are looking to both Boeing and Airbus to put in offers to replace their aging 737's. Last I heard they expect to make a decision and place an order in a few months.
