Missing ATC On Without A Trace

Tue Jan 09, 2007 9:44 am

Did anyone else see last night's Without a Trace? An ATC went missing. I laughed at a lot of their aviation mistakes, but there weren't a whole lot. I think the most major one was the landing/taking off on Runway Two in opposite directions. (So one was landing on 20 and one taking off on 2 at the same time but they called it landing on 2 and taking off on 2.) It also frustrated me that they had only 10 mins deleted from an ATC tape, rather than the whole TAPE missing. Don't they store the recordings on a tape and not a hard drive?

Anyway, what did you guys think?

I think that depends. The Army and Air Force have a recorder called a DVRS. It has 2 "tapes" and corresponding drives. I do, though, believe everything is recorded to a hard drive and then transposed to the tape at a set time before it is ejected. Don't put me down as 100% positive, though.
