Well done OSL.

Like ARN a great deal of this traffic is from domestic flights.

In 2006, CPH had more than 19+ mio international passengers, ARN 11+ mio and OSL only 9+ mio.
Future flights: CPH-BOS; CPH-SVG; CPH-PVG-HKG-MNL-DVO; CPH-CDG; CPH-NRT; CPH-MIA; CPH-PVG

OSL had the largest increase by the CPH/ARN/OSL in pasenger numbers, both international (14%) and in total (11,2%).

Not surpringsly do Danes seem to think that international passengers are more "important" than domestic.
Flying in Norway you may fly nonstop for 2 hours without leaving the country. Doing so from Copenhagen will get you to eg Milan in Italy.

LHR has almost 70 million passengers per year with 2 runways. OSL has 19 million passengers and now wants to build a third runway. Go figure!

Yeah it's a bit much, but the traffic at LHR is non-stop. It is pretty amazing to see at night. Rows of planes in landing patterns.

Last year HEL had 12 milj passengers, with three runways. Not sure if three runways are needed for the lot busier intercontinental traffic than OSL for an example, for enviromental (noise) reasons or just for the future needs.
HEL will expand quite a bit in 2009.

Yes of course. It just shows how important domestic air travel is in Norway and Sweden. Denmark is so small geographically, that wide domestic operations is just not needed.

Do you work for Ryan Air or something LOL? You'd might as well call Malmø as being Copenhagen. It's certainly closer to the city center than either NYO or TRF.

According to CPH's own website the airport's catchment area is 5,5 million people which is more than the entire population of Norway. That is why CPH is - and will continue to be - king of Scandinavia. Furthermore, add the fact that business activity in Øresundsregionen(Copenhagen - East Denmark/Malmø - Southern Sweden) is growing at a high rate. A lot of Multinationals are setting up shop here. I also remember reading that every third passenger that begins their journey in CPH is Swedish.
However, it has to be said that CPH are losing more transit passengers each year which of course is not so good. That is countered by new routes and increase in passengers starting their journey here.

It also has to be said that an 11,2% increase is very good so OSL has done very well this year, and hopefully they will continue to grow, but leave the wide body activity to CPH  biggrin

They are loosing transfer pax, yes, it's down from almost 50 % of pax five years ago to 1/3 today - however, this has largely been due to the split-up of SK, so I doubt that the trend will continue. There are still many routes to/from Scandinavia that are too thin to be operated nonstop from, say, ARN or OSL, and CPH is still a significant hub for this - and will continue to be, also.

Quoting Flyingfool (Reply 19):

Let me just add that I see nothing less important with domestic traffic although there are limitations on how much one can expect this traffic to increase simply due to size of the population in Norway.

In the long run, potential increase in overall traffic must come from an increase in international traffic. Even though the market indeed has been growing, I doubt whether it's enough to attract airlines to OSL on a larger scale thus limiting the sustainability for further growth. Catchment area-wise OSL simply has a disadvantage compared to CPH and ARN.
Future flights: CPH-BOS; CPH-SVG; CPH-PVG-HKG-MNL-DVO; CPH-CDG; CPH-NRT; CPH-MIA; CPH-PVG

Although I agree with you. IATA don't and has classified TRF as Oslo, which always annoys me because when I search for OSL flights alot of alternatives to TRF also shows up as OSL is both OSL and TRF and OSL alone as we don't have a code as NYC which goes for ALL New York airports
