American Airlines, Ukraine's AeroSvit Make Interli

Wed Jan 10, 2007 2:59 am

FORT WORTH, Tx. (AFX) - US carrier American Airlines and the Ukraine's largest carrier AeroSvit Airlines have entered into a special pro-rate agreement that promises to significantly increase travel between the two countries.

This AeroSvit-American Airline agreement recognizes the Interline accord whereby, airline partners accept each other's travel tickets. Passengers have the opportunity to travel with one airline's ticket on the flights of the other carrier.

This commercial agreement came into effect on Jan. 1, 2007.

Nice, will be good for Ukraine especially. Is there a high Ukraine popualtion within the US? Not sure what the benifits of these flights would be if not, especially for AA and the US passenegrs

This agreement is not a big deal. There are no marketing agreements noted such as frequent flyer or codeshare. It simply makes ticketing easier.

Indeed such an agreement is no big deal at all. There are 1000s of interline agreements around which are between different carriers.

Yes there are 1000's of interline agreements, but at a snails pace many are being upgraded to E tkt status and thats important!

Speaking of E tkt agreements..US AIrways only has five agreements in place for e ticketiung whereas DL has over 40.

So alot has to happen befored paper tickets go away..but i have noticed an increase in the pace that these agreements are being upgraded!

Well, basically etix interline agreements are not different to "normal" paper ticket interline agreements at all. But right, the number of those agreements is much smaller and it will take time to implement more of them.

Here in Switzerland eg. BSP set a target that all carriers selling tickets here via BSP need to implement etix and stop selling them. Having said that normal interline agreements are useless and etix interlining agreements are the only option when including another 2nd carrier into a ticket or issuing a external carrier on its own ticket stock. This rule is not only for Switzerland but also for plenty of other European carriers as well. A lot of foreign carriers not having etix at all (eg QR, MH etc) are being challenged here quite a lot!

What I should have said as well, is will this lead to any more partnerships between the two airlines and what benefits would this have , if any, for AA?
