United's Snow Hit: $40 Million

Wed Jan 10, 2007 6:55 am

Just saw this article from the rocky mountain news, nothing really extraordinary, just overview of the cost on United from the blizzards and then a short blurb about Frontier's loss. Not a bad read.

It kind of reminds me of the old saying in Washington, D.C.: "A billion here, a billion there; sooner or later it's going to add up to some real money!!"

Hopefully the airlines will recover from this - and the western great plains won't get hit with anymore mega-storms...but this is an El Niño year, so who knows?

There have been storms before, and there will be more, airlines should factor this in their earnings forecasts and ticket pricing ... if they cannot sustain those natural events, they won't last for very long.

There normally aren't 2 very large storms and 2 smaller storms within a 2 week period though.  Wink
