SAA CDG-JNB Equipment Q?

Wed Jan 10, 2007 5:26 pm

I'm flying on SAA CDG-JNB on Feb 23rd.

Orbitz shows the a/c as A340-200

SAA telephone sales says the a/c is A340-300 and that Y begins at row 45

Seatguru shows only the SAA A340-600 as having Y start at row 45 - somebody is wrong (my bet is seatguru and Orbitz are likely to be the inaccurate sources!)

Does anybody know for sure what a/c type usually flies this route - it may seem trivial, but the 342 has different IFE from 343 - and 346 is an entirely different animal altogether and I'd like to know before I go.

Thanks in advance.

It isn't trivial! The 343/346 have AVOD and the 342 has TVs that drop from the ceiling above the aisle, so "different IFE" is an understatement!

Regarding the row numbers, SAA have tried to standardise numbering which is why 45 is shown as the first row of Y but is definitely isn't the 45th row of the 342. Similarly, row 11 is the first row in economy on the 732, 738 and 319.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

So no chance for the AVOD ex-CDG - or even an equip substitution to the 346 - I can always hope.

Will the 342s ever get AVOD?

Thanks for the info.
