Congratulations, NCL-people!

Can't say I'm not a bit jealous coming from Copenhagen, it must be our turn soon to have EK and we were so close!!  Sad  Sad

From the article:

"Emirates already operates 91 non-stop flights each week, or 13 each day, from the UK to Dubai – five services daily from London Heathrow, three services per day from London Gatwick, double-daily flights from Birmingham and Manchester, and a daily connection from Glasgow."

So that means almost 100 flights weekly from the UK to DXB from September (and that's just EK)! Even though it is a big market, also with all the connecting to Aus/NZ, this still seems wild to me, also considering that it's all widebody traffic, but I guess they know what they're doing.

But congrats once again, NCL. Mind you of course, that CPH owns NCL Airport, so EK has de facto some to CPH now!  Smile

Wow, great news.

And of course AA could not make a JFK run work for them. Here's hoping that CO/DL gets into the NCL action soon.

is there really 300 seats a day demand from NCL to DXB ?
I didnt think there were 300 people in newcastle that could afford the ticket.. let alone every day.
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

I guess a major difference between starting EK to DXB and transatlantic is that NCL probably can't go transatlantic in the winter, while DXB (or rather, connections here) will have a market year-round. But still, a CO 757 doesn't seem unlikely, at least in the summer.

I think it will be quite popularwith the local Asian and Chinese population as well as others.
Hopefully the likes of Kuoni Holidays will offer some far east holidays from NCL using Emirates as well.
Hell, if BHX can sustain 2 x Daily flights, I'm sure NCL can sustain a single daily A330  Wink

When I first moved to the UAE my mate took me there - to say that prostitution is supposed to be illegal in the UAE, it is one HUGE whore-house. Another example of Arab hypocrisy.

You should know by now that anything goes in Dubai. Arab sheiks drinking alcohol for example - not a problem, you can witness it in the poshest bars  Wink

Great news for NCL and the North East.

People tend to forget that the region has a large population - Tyneside, Wearside and Teeside and is a long way from MAN or LON for long haul flights. MAN may be the main airport in the North of England, but it still a damn long journey from NCL - either by road or rail.

Aye, but east of Dumfries, it's quicker to get to NCL than GLA

The main thing to remember is it is not a flight to Dubai.... It is a connecting flight to ??? places with many connections that are not easy from most airports. Watch out BA connectors as they will fly away to Emirates.

Indeed. As I said earlier, I can see a few Pakistani's/Indians/Chinese/Australians using this service also

My friend works at NCL as a dispatcher and I was talking to him about this when the rumours started to spread. He also agreed that there would be a lot of Chinese, Pakistani, Indian and Arabs taking up the option of flying woth EK. At the moment they mostly connect with KL through AMS.

This will give them a much better option though, probably cheaper as well

Couple of quick queries:

1. Anyone know off-hand how many connections from NCL there are to airports with direct flights to DXB - e.g. LHR, AMS? Will a daily flight to DXB impact on any of these enough to result in cut-backs of multiple daily connections - for example - AMS reducing from 4/daily to 3/daily?
2. In terms of passengers/annum where did NCL stand in the league table of European airports without an EK DXB service? If it wasn't top there must be a reason why it has jumped to the top of EKs list - subsidy from airport, confidence in yields, freight???

(Edited quote to correct typo!)

Add in the prospect of more passengers heading to Australasia from the NCL catchment area and you can see an awful lot of connecting traffic. Perhaps other European destinations do not offer the same potential for getting passengers on to their DXB connections, and are thus a little bit more reliant on the local "airport"-DXB-"airport" market.

I called EK today to see how much their cheapest fare to DXB on the Inaugaural flight was. I was quoted £512.00 per pax inc taxes.

Their website still isnt't working either so I cant check prices online.
