That's a very nice order to start the year with. Perhaps the 20 737s announced by SALE were included in last years count as unidentified.

Has TAM firmed up their commitment already? If not, these could well be it.

Yes it was a UFO order made in late December.

You're right it cold be TAM or Flyington Freighters or even PR. We'll know a a little bit more in early Feb.

Nice way to start 07.

I wonder how many 747-8 orders we will see this year now that LH is on board with the program.

Excellent start to the new year.  Smile

My predictions...
737 will sell 400+
747 will sell 75
767 will get the long awaiting KC-X order for 120 frames or so.
777 will top 75
787 will sell 200 frames... many of these will be late Q1 and then many will follow on after rollout and first flights.  Smile

I expect 800+ aircraft this year to be sold.

I hope you are right, but I am not sure about the 767 order.

What are you not sure of? That they will get it? or the number of frames?

The USAF won't buy a foreign tanker... even if its built here. Let alone the KC330 is too large for NATO bases ect ect... we've all been thru that conversation a couple times. Blah blah...

KC-767 it is. Just watch...

Well...isn't the USAF also evaluating a 777-based tanker?

Were the 777 UFOs options that were utilised or brand new orders? If so, it must be a smallish airline, not many are ordered in that amount, unless they are just to supplement the current fleet

Boeing has presented that option (USAF uses two different sized tankers) to replace the KC-10's. The whole time they have been planning on continueing with multiple tankers. The KC767/KC330 is to replace the KC-135 only. Though the KC330 COULD be used to replace KC-10's... i beleive a KC-777 (based on the 772LR/F platform would be the most beneficial.

I thought from another thread that the 767 program was on hold from the present time. I am not sure though. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Okay...you are wrong.  Wink

I'm not sure where you would have heard that the 767 program is on hold... How would that work anyways? What would all the 767 mechanics do while the plane they build is "on hold"?

The 767 is moving very SLOWLY... we push one out every 20 days. The last one was a ANA 767.  Smile

I think >75 777s is optimistic. The tanker deal might or might not happen. Other than that, it seems likely. I would expect Boeing to sell 600 to 1000 this year.

I see a very strong year for 748I perhaps even outselling the 748F this year (but not catching up to F sales) and the 748 program WILL pass the total sales of the A380 program this year.

The Air Force should buy the 777 and forget about the 25 year old 767 design. Boeing should put its eggs in programs with a future and not plead Uncle Sam to keep the 767 program going. The capabilities of teh 777 are far greater then the 767 tankers would be.

The problem is the 777 won't fit in hangars and tarmac spaces sized for the current KC-135, so significant retrofitting and even expansion would be required at many bases around the world. The A330 has this issue as well, since her wings are some 13m wider then the 762s...

Is there a breakdown on which 777 model(s) was ordered?

checkmark  Ramp and hangar compatibilty will likely be a major consideration in making this purchase, anyone familiar with the most recent round of "BRAC" (Base Realignment and Closure Commission) hearings can attest to it.

That's what they said last year. The industry is in the middle of a Lawson boom. Only Boeing joining the European Exchange Rate Mechanism can ruin it.

That might be a little bit optimistic. Certainly in the next couple of years, but I'm not sure about this year.

Boeing has said they will not aggressively pursue a 777 tanker as it would take 4 years and several Billion $ to develop. The 767 tanker is a proven platform in active service in the Air Forces of Japan and Italy.

The 777 is significantly larger than the Air Force has requested.

Yes... the total for 748 net program sales will exceed the total A380 net program sales.  Smile In my scenario...

Ooooo... gotcha. Well... put on hold and put back into a new bidding war actually. The bids are due this month and of course Boeing will have a very good one. Northrop Grumman will put their bid in for the KC330 everyone expects also (dur...).

I beleive Boeing will win this. No question. The issues that arise from having the much larger A330 based tanker being used on NATO bases and other parts of the world, Northrop would have to undercut Boeing by some huge margins so the government could save those billions and refit all the bases/hangars.

I just don't see that happening... The KC-767 fits now and is still more capable than the KC-135's are.
