How Is MAXjet Doing?

Sat Jan 13, 2007 3:35 am

So, as the thread title says, how are they doing? Anyone know? I noticed they started service between London and Vegas now. Is the service they offer pretty popular? Do any netters work for them?

Dont work for them, but have heard that they seem to have seemly good load factors. The fact they keep expanding speaks well for them as well.

They have suspended STN-IAD until May, in a bid to 'concentrate on STN-JFK/LAS':

http://www.leesburg2day.com/articles...n_business/biz1175maxjet011207.txt

Tech aircraft have been a problem lately with many flights cancelled or with extremely long delays. Unless they sort these problems out, which would probably mean accquiring new aircraft, could the STN-IAD suspension be permanent?

I don't want to smear their name; I haven't flown with them or anything, but I read a pretty bad review on them. They said that for being an all-first class airline, the F/As spent most of their time at the forward section of the plane, and my favorite part was the guy who was assigned a seat that didn't exist in the configuration of the plane (2x2x2).

Wow...That is the second time a carrier operating between the UK and the US abandoned IAD to go to Vegas. BMI did the same thing...

In both cases LAS flights were started before IAD

From a friend that works there that I talked with just this week...Load factors and bookings remain high. Adding more flights and they also secured an exclusive contract for several events this year. I'd say they are doing just fine...

There was a thread back in October I think, where MaxJet had gotten an extremely bad review by some magazine, and - allegedly - had tried to bribe them off not to write anything bad about the airline. They've had a lot of problems with crews, service as well as tech; the latter especially tough when you have so little capacity to move around in case of problems.

I must say I doubt it... load factors and bookings can be sky-high, and an airline can still be in trouble.. I think their problem would lie in the yield, and starting to LAS doesn't do much to address this. With Eos, recent start-up SilverJet, and oh yes VS, CO, BA, AA etc. offering good C-productys as well in addition to ten times as many frequencies (literally, almost), I think MaxJet is in for a tough one.. as is SilverJet and Eos btw..

Same here.

Loads are high and bookings are booming, preusmable they IAD services have ended because more cash can be made on JFK/LAS, and yes they do need more a/c.

So what about that other airline Eos, I hear you ask?

Well AFAIK, they are doing just fine as well, heard good reports and many reviews have been generous

Maxjet has been suffering through numerous cancellations and are going tech, resulting in extremely long (5+) hour delays on a regular basis. Their planes are constantly having to be put down for extensive repairs and while they load factors may still be good, they are quickly losing the momentum (and passengers) they have gained in the first year of operation.

MaxJet started its service with STN-JFK and STN-IAD. Then, late last year they added the LAS flight in response to their relative success on their first two routes. So in this case, IAD started before LAS.

That's too bad to hear. I think the idea of the airline is a good one. But they only have a few 767's, right? I don't think you can hope to run an airline well with less than a handfull of aircraft.

exactly. Maxjet is an All-Business class airline while EOS is an all first class airline. If you look at photos of the interior, you can see the major difference too.

I don't know where all these "bad reviews" of MaxJet are coming from.... I've flown them twice, and over all have been fairly impressed. If nothing else, the employees were SO FRIENDLY and professional. Really willing to do anything to make the passengers happy....

Is it as polished as they'd like it to be? No, but that comes with the territory of being a start up airline I think ... it'll come with time. I really hope they make it, as I look forward to flying with them again....

Sorry, I thought Business and First were the same (or very similar)? Can someone tell me the differences?

Erm,

Economy: Cattle Class, lowest class on the plane, but the one with the most seats usually. Limited legroom and in most cases so-so food and service. Less personal service, most long-haul have personal IFE screens. e.g. British Airways World Traveller

Premium Economy: Same as economy, but with more legroom and more advanced IFE, although in most cases they are just bigger seats with more legroom. e.g. British Airways World Traveller Plus

Business is usually the second-class type of travel, suited more to, you guessed it, business passengers. Most now feature lie-flat beds, but a limited IFE and not such high-quality food or standard of service. e.g. British Airways Club World

First is the highest level of luxury the airline gives, basically their chance to show off their talents in service and catering, with luxurious cabins and people to fill your every whim. e.g. British Airways First

Hope that helps, although someone else probably has a better definiteion. And welcome to A.net

There are also some codes, although I get confused

Y=Economy, F= First, not sure about the other two, cant believe I still get confused

No some major differences still but the 2 are now getting very similar with flat beds in business..Major difference is space and a higher ratio of staff to passengers..Better food and wine ..Food usually plated like a restaurant in first also.. Also the domestic First in america is really only a business class service ..

To be honest, First is a whole different league to Business (which is usually called J class btw, also sometimes C). With first, you get a suite, complete privacy, sometimes a dedicated terminal (eg QR, or LH at FRA, where each pax is individually driven to the aircraft in a black Merc). Business is a big seat (only BA and SA have flat beds in J) and food comes in seperate courses, a dedicated lounge. But it isn't first.
