A Beautiful Site!

Tue Jul 18, 2000 5:58 am

While inroute between offices here in ATL Hartsfield I came upon a wonderful site. While driving along the E concourse (which is the international) I came across this site: Sitting side by side were the following 1. Delta MD-11. 2. Swiss Air MD-11. 3. AirFrance A-340 4. Delta 777 5. Luftansa A-340 6. Swiss Air 747 (I believe 200) 7. KLM 767 8. Delta 767........

That was along one side of E and what an array of aircraft, especially just driving by and comparing size, wingspan, and engine sizes.

What is the best All Star lineup that any of you have encountered in one setting?

At Newark its common to see such an all star line up. Aer Lingus A330, Lufthansa A340 and 742, British Airways 777, Virgin Atlantic 744, Continental 777, El Al 744, all these usually in a row. If you come at a different time, I think you may see an SAS 767, Sabena A340 (used to be CityBird/Sabena MD-11), or maybe Singapore 744, Malaysian 777, Eva 744. There always seems to be a good variety at EWRs IAB.

The best of course is at JFK, now thats the Hollywood of airports, you see just about ALL the stars

Is there a chance you may be incorrect about the Swiss Air 747. I'm pretty sure they have gotten rid of all of them. Actually, according to Bill Harm's site they have sold them all off. Perhaps this may have been a different carrier but they haven't repainted the plane yet. Can you confirm it was a 747 in Swiss Air colors?
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.

Just got back from SIN where I saw at Terminal 1 (from left to right - including the freight sheds at the back):

SQ A340
DC8 Freighter (could not see tail)
SQ A310
SQ B744
FedEx MD11
DC10 x2 (could not see tail)
GF A340 (the aircraft I was to board)
GA B744 x 2

A bit for everyone, but still not near your sighting Tritanic.

B727-200.

FlyVirgin I think I do owe an apology, now it was definitely a 747 200, but after your reply I checked the SR scheadule's and you are correct they have changed that aircraft to a MD-11, now for two years coming to work I used to coinside with a 3pm SR 747-200 arrival every day. Now one thing for sure it was a definite 200 series, and I'm still searching the FIDS to try and find which airline. When driving by I shouln't have been so quick to make an ASSumption.

RE: A Beautiful Site! - Swiss Air 747s

Hasn't it been a while since Swiss Air 747-200's have been retired? I thought, well at least for the past two years, they had been only 747-300's in their fleet until their recent retirement.

sammy you're right they haven't had their 747-200s for something like over 5 years, they had their 747-300s but they sold them off recently...

Swissair does not have any 747 anymore. Since the middle 1980 they had only 747-300s any no -200s. I think the last Swissair 747 flight was out of ATL in February 2000. At the moment the Swissair long haul fleet includes MD 11 and A 330-200. In 2002 they get their first A 340-600.

Hmm, wonder how Tritanic saw them everyday for the past two years then?

Red with white tail, 747-200, Virgin maybe? I don't think they fly to Atlanta though, do they?
