|Quoting DZ09 (Reply 7):
I thought you don't elite miles through purchases only from actually flying.
I can't speak for American (and it sounds like it may just be "Million Miler" status, not regular elite status), but on Continental this is correct - In general, EQMs are 100% of flown
miles with a 500 mile minimum. There are a few exceptions that are 50% of flown miles (really cheap fares), and a few that are 150% (Y, H, and first class fares)
Hotel/Credit Card/Wacky Promo Of the Week mileage doesn't do anything for your EQM count.
In the case of NW
, elite status seems to be roughy 5 business days after the last qualifing flight through remainder of that program year + next program year; the program year is March 1 through February 28th, but all EQMs must be earned in a single callendar year.
Slightly off topic but Hilton HHonors uses a rolling qualification period that I still haven't figured out exactly how it works -- but as of now I have enough credits to be a Silver VIP through something like April 30, 2009 and I only need 4 more stays by the end of Feb to hit gold.
