Georgian President's Ilyushin 62 At Lhr!

Tue Jul 18, 2000 7:02 am

After many hours of patiently waiting... and waiting... and waiting... I got to see the Georgian VIP Il-62 at Heathrow today! What a sight! ...still not as good as Putin's 2 Tu-154's and Il-76 (just for his armoured limo) earlier this year.

Unfortunately, you really have to be in the right place at the right time at LHR to get a good photo, so I was going to go back and see it take-off.

Does anyone know what time he's scheduled to depart? Where can I find that information? The PM's office and Reuters didn't know (or didn't want to tell me)...

Has anyone else seen it? The CIS leaders all have very nice colour schemes on their VIP aircraft but this one was extremely disappointing... not even a national flag to be seen. They need to take some lessons from the Ukrainians who drape their gold and blue colours over everything -- which looks lovely!

So can anyone help me out?

I'll post the pics on here soon, if they are any good, along with the Putin ones.
