Congrats to AA, here's hoping all the TX carriers follow along with profits as they have in recent quarters.

The CO webcast is set for 1/18 to announce their 4th quarter and yearly financial results.

Good Job AA! I bet that was a nice, unexpected result since they thought they were going to be in the red for another quarter! It's nice to be on the black side...Congrats and well deserved.

Gongrats to all AA-ers! great work!. But still a LONG way to go. A $231m annual profit is only about a 3% pre tax margin, which is not sustainable for long term growth and prosperity.

Do you happen to know what the historical margin for the airline industry is? Would be interesting to compare.

Kudos to AA for avoiding bankruptcy and maintaining pensions and benefits for their employees. That said...

Absolutely correct. 2006 was about as good as we can expect, and yet the profits are pitiful. The only real hope is if fuel prices come down and stay down - and I'm a bear on that topic. I also fear the unions taking these meager profits and arguing as if there is a bucket of money to draw from.

As an oil trader, I don't see oil spiking back as high as it did previously...at least not right now...a $45-$50 range would be just what the doctor ordered for almost all of the carriers....

Back when I was investing in air carriers in the mid 90's, I would see 6%-7% margins..nothing more....

Seems all is not too rosie with the pilots Union though

Is this the start of a big spat with management, the China route case may have just been the the start of the problems between the two, anybody got any insight here?

Congrats to AA. I am a loyal AA flyer though on occassion I use CO. Its great to see AA on the road to making a full recovery.

$231mn in annual profits...hmm..what od u expect CO, DL, UA and US' figures to be? What is SW's profit figure?

I concur (except I spell congrats with a "C"!)  Smile
This is only one step in the full recovery process and while it is encouraging, you also have to keep it in proportion. Still, it beats a loss any day!

This is great but they still need to get their debt under control. They paid 250 million in interest in the fourth quarter alone, meaning they are spending as much in three months as they make in an entire year on interest.

But absolutely great, their great performance is helping me get through college!

Jeez, the company still has $18 billion in debt??? Yikes! How in the world will it ever pay that sum off?
