Back on New Years Day in 1979, flying on a DL
DC8 between LAX
, we diverted to Love because of ice at the destination. (Worked out anyway because we lived out by White Rock Lake at the time)
At the time, DFW
was out on the prairie with not much around, while DAL
, of course was surrounded by the city, and a little warmer because of the heat retained by the surrounding infrastructure.
It's not that unusual for the weather to be that different, happens in many places.....like between PUB and COS
recently. Overnight lows were 5 in COS
, while it was -5 in PUB, and they are not that far apart.....one could get hit hard by snow, the other could get none.
Weather can be very discriminating.
