Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:20 am

How many 'coats' are usually needed to paint a plane
Spotted this a/c a while ago with the old opeartor logo still visible

Actually I'm not quite sure that Continental's logo is really on that plane... I dunno... it just doesn't look quite right!

They put as few coats of paint on as they can get away with because the more you put on, the more the aircraft weighs and the more fuel is used. Its probably just a primer and a top coat.

DC9 is an ex-continental a/c painted in this picture as Africa one

But that is not Continental's logo.

The "globe figure" that one can see behind the continent of Africa is part of the logo on Africa One logo. On google there are more pictures of this airline and it can be noticed that on every a/c , this globe figure is illustrated. So I think it has nothing to do with Continental airlines.

The globe placement is different. On Africa one the globe takes up the entire rudder, on Continental the top half of the rudder is clear.

Also on Continental the globe is painted with white and gold lines, on Africa One the lines are white with a gold background

No, it was a good question. I thought the same until I saw Vasu's post. That is what forums are for.

I do certainly wonder where AfricaOne got the idea of the globe from, though...!
