I'm pretty sure that that is the 747-400 leased from LH to Condor in 1994. This would be the "transition" paint scheme, probably before returning to Condor. However, I don't recall the engines and belly being painted in yellow. A fake, perhaps?
Next flights: YQM-YYZ-YOW v.v. / YQM-CUN v.v. / YQM-YUL-YWG v.v. / YSJ-YYZ-SEA-SFO / SFO-YYZ-YOW-YQM / YQM-YYZ-MUC-TXL /

Wasn't that plane leased to DE in order to make LH make flights to Taiwan?
Can someone enlighten me more about this rule that an airline who is flying to Taiwan is not allowed to fly to mainland China!

I think thats the reason, why there is/was for example British Asia Airways, Air France Asia, KLM Asia and Swissair Asia.

Thx for any help!

From my understanding it is because China refuses to see Taiwan as an independant country as it was a "renegade" state which fought for its own independance, or something similar.

Hence why there are "asia" airlines eg KLM Asia, BA Asia, Air France Asia although I don't recall a Lufthansa Asia so they must have used DE instead.

I'm sure someone can make a better explination than that for you  Smile

This is exactly what the caption says:

Photo by: Morne Booij-Liewes (Date: 13.01.2007)
Airline: Lufthansa [D-ABTB]
Type: Boeing 747-400
Airport: South Africa Johannesburg (JNB)
Comment: Ungewöhnlich sieht diese Lufthansa Boeing 747 nach großer Wartung in Johannesburg aus, nachdem es Probleme mit der Lackierung vor Ort gab. / An unusual livery is worn by this Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 after a D-check at Johannesburg. Apparently some minor problems occured during painting.

Maybe the tan/gold color is the undercoat/primer and they ran out of white paint so she had to leave without a complete paint job?

No, its all the parts that are grey and blue which appear in gold here. Don´t know why its such a problem to get grey and blue paint.
