American 777 Experiences

Wed Jul 19, 2000 3:31 am

I am flying on an AA 777 from JFK to LHR next month. Do any of you have experiences that you would care to share from AA 777's?

Thank you!

I was on one, they are nice! PTV's video games the whole nine yards. real quiet inside. seats are alright at least in coach, in biz they are pretty good, in first they have sleeper seats. they have more leg room then the traditional AA seats. i like it.

You'll love it. I flew on it about a year ago on a domestic flight, from Dallas to Chicago. I was sitting in the Business Class cabin but I got the same service as in Economy. I was impressed with the tremendous power of the quiet engines during take off. Also on American's 777 you have a PTV on each seat, even in economy, and you'll be seeing on your personal screen an electronic map showing the progress of the aircraft along with some flight info. I really enjoyed it, it's a great aircraft.
Have a nice flight.

they suck, i flew on one from eze-mia and it was a bad flight. the coach class seats have no leg room due to a big silver box attached to the floor under the seat in front of you and its a pain in the ass to go to the bathrooom because you have to walk to the front or back of the cabin to get to the other isle if you want to use a vacant lav on the other side of the plane because the lavs on your side of the plane have long lines. i am now trying to book my flights on aa's 767 and i will remain trying to avoid their 777s and MD-11's!

Its a decent aircraft. I flew ORD-LHR earlier this year and it was an enjoyable flight, mainly because the service was quite exceptional for coach.

Legroom was not a problem in an aisle seat, but could be an issue for a center section. PTV's were an annoyance since they kept running at the empty seats which distracted me when I was trying to work. I'd much rather do without them.

All in all, I prefer AA's MD-11s, but the 777 is definitely a step up from the 763s and A300s.

If the PTV in an empty seat next to you is distracting, I would switch it over to the Airshow channel... There's a lot less motion and change on the Airshow than in a movie or TV show, so it would probably be less of a distraction.

You mean you can't turn them off!?!?! Who ever thought up that system. You can't be serious!

Yes, you can turn it off. Its a very complicated system. You reach over and push the button that says TV on/off. Its a green button, and all the other buttons are black so its hard to spot.

Thats all well and good for YOUR seat and the ones immediately adjoining it, but the default setting is ON. I'll be damned if I have to walk across the entire cabin pressing the green button at every seat.

The flight I took had no more than 40 of us on ORD-LHR. The PTVs at the empty seats were immensely annoying with the glow and flicker.
