Strong Crosswinds Torture 2 Planes (VIDEO)

Mon Jan 22, 2007 11:00 am

Recently shot video showing massive storm winds affecting (among other things) a couple of landing attempts / go-around's by 2 jets. I am sorry but i can't understand what country is this although i think i've heard something about 'Manchester'...can anyone help?

Forward the video at around 00.20 and pay attention to the wings' flexing!

I saw the news report on TV in English. I beleive those A/C were somewhere in Germany.

IMHO it looks like Turkish TV. Other than Manchester I think I heard the Netherlands (Holanda), France and Belgium being mentioned. And yes, it's impressive, thanks for sharing.

Edited addition: You are from Cyprus, if it was Turkish TV, you should know, how dumb of me...

On a second thought: Latin characters and latin pronunciation of Holanda, Francia and Bélgica draws me to guess it is Romanian.

Edited again: IT IS TURKISH!!! Double bang:  banghead   banghead

Hi all

I remember those pictures being shown on local TV here in Manchester. The airport was closed for a couple of hours for safety reasons because of the high winds. I saw many go-rounds that day. Lots of wind shear.

Another similar incident,

Dangerous takeoff in extreme winds

Plane takes off in dangerous winds during recent storm in Manchester.

we had a windshear report on the METAR for LHR tonight, but in London it was ok now to fly!(or land), nothing special.
we picked up some heavy winds though on cruise! 125 knots!

A week ago we rocked everywhere on landing! that was more fun!

Itd be pretty fun to be on those planes, to be able to laugh at those that I am sure are freaking out.

Cheers,
