Is EgyptAir Going To Order More B777

Mon Jan 22, 2007 1:00 pm

hi all,

I was talking to a friend of mine, who works for the airline, and he told me that MS is planning to increase they daily service to JFK, he said they talking about adding a second flight in 2 days. So when I told him that they don’t have enough aircrafts for such move, since they have very high aircraft utilization, he answered by saying that they talk about buying more B777.

So any one has any News if they already talked to Boeing to experience any new 777?

Regards

A year ago the rumour (from Horus) was that they were going to buy more A330s.

Yea I know about that one, although I didn’t hear about it since that time.
But that conversation with my friend (he is a FA) was less than 2 weeks ago.
And what makes me feel it could be true is that I know that they have a high Yield on that route.
Currently MS have 5 B772 (SU-GBY, SU-GBX, SU-GBS, SU-GBR and SU-GBP), also keep in mind that they have 3 A340 (SU-GBO, SU-GBN and SU-GBM) but they use it on Far East routes.
At the same time I’m not sure if the A330 can make it through all this distance, does anyone have info about this?

The 763ER did make cairo-jfk with full payload no problem. so why shouldn't the A332 make it? I do like the B777S though, because they do the route in 10 hours VS the 767s which took 13-14 hours to do the trip.
Please excuse my English!

Hey Korg, How are you?
You have a valid point, although I don’t think they will ever deploy the A330 in such route they mainly fly it to Middle East and Europe.
And I do agree with you I love the B772, flew the route couple of times and it’s really comfortable and will maintained, Keep in mind that they don’t operate the B767 anymore.

It all depends , is this expansion in the near or the far future . If it is in the near future ( summer timetable ) i don't think they can find a T7 for sale that soon but all they can do is to withdraw T7's from serving other destinations like LHR or some of the Gulf cities to support an increase in JFK schedule ( it is just a small increase of twice weekly anyways ) .
But this is an excellent news , i believe MS would like to capture as much market share as possible before any American carrier tap into the JFK/CAI market upon inauguration of Terminal 3 in Cairo late this year .

According to him that should happen sometime before the end of the year but he didn’t specify time.

That sounds like a reasonable thing to do, but I learned that with MS you can expect the unexpected.

Yes that’s True, there is a high demand on this route and its about time to take advantage of that before T3 is Open and US based airlines start flying to CAI( I was disappointed that DL didn’t announce that in the last expansion but I hope that will be in the next move).

Btw what is the status of the two 747-300 of Egyptair which were taken out of service in 2005? Are they still at Cairo? They are still relatively young and as Combis should make a good base for freighters.

MS have 2 B743 (SU-GAL and SU-GAM) both of them are stored, I know that there was talking that one of them was going to be leased but I can't remember the exact details and I tried to find more details but doesn't seem like they are going any where soon.
And I do agree with you they are fairly young both were delivered on 1988.

Hope hours or MSYYZ have more info about that one.

Agreed, so why can't or wouldn't MS use their A332 to JFK. The aircraft has the range to operate CAI-JFK nonstop so why not make use of it? Flying only to Europe and the Middle East would be a waste of usage of the full capability of an aircraft that can fly much further, in this case the A332.

Although I do agree with you on the capabilities of the A332, but I think they are flying the B772 because of both Seating and Cargo capabilities, and I would push more towards cargo since NYC is bit Cargo market (Evergreen is flying a B747 once a week for MS).
On the other hand the Middle East market is Big enough and can accommodate such capacity easily, so I think the A332 is the best to suite this demand.
Remember also that once EgyptAir Express start operating in April that will free more aircraft to fly long haul they can send the A332 to LHR and keep that B772 that they send to do the JFK leg.
One thing I’m sure that in the near future we will hear something unpredictable as MS habit

service to JFK, he said they talking about adding a second flight in 2 days.

Two those extra frequencies probably represent the YUL service. Given that it is strictly a seasonal operation, is it likely that MS is willing to redeploy on beefing up JFK?

Like I said it’s not official but that’s the talks inside the company, like MSYYZ mentioned above the Opening of T3 is going to take place this year which is mainly Build to Bring CAI back as a hub, so it make sense to increase the service in JFK specially with the talks that US airlines are going to start operating to CAI soon.

I’m not sure but I think there is a restriction on YUL on having a scheduled flight, if my memory serves MS is trying to allow AC to go to CAI and get a scheduled flight to YUL.
MSYYZ can answer this Much much better than me.

Are you sure about that? 4 hours is a hell of a difference in flight time on a 5610 miles route.
If you are going through hell, keep going.

On Amadeus , it is showing that Egyptair is downgrading its YUL service to A340 instead of the B777 , i guess this is in anticipation of the competition with the reopened service by Royal Jordanian AMM-YUL-AMM starting May 25th of this year using an A340 , but MS is maintaining its twice weekly summer only service on that route . I am not sure what MS is planning to do regarding this tough competition , will it go twice weekly year-round ( A340/330) ? Will it increase to thrice weekly summer only ? Only time will tell .

I would have suspected that MS would use the A330-200 for this route. Small F/J cabins + reasonable CASMs for a high leisure flow market. Certainly they could try to market cnx's to BEY/DXB/JED/RUH/DAM etc year-round and try to put a dent in the AF fortress to these destinations.
