Commercial Service To Palmdale

Tue Jan 23, 2007 10:41 am

This upcoming weekend, I head to Palmdale, California (PMD) for the first time, and I was curious if there are any possibilities of commercial service to PMD, as I am under the impression there hasn't been any for a while. It would really help having avoid LAX and that whole scene! Thanks in advance.

No commerical service to PMD at this time. Ontario is a good alternative to LAX and the drive to Palmdale (via San Bernadino) has a lot less traffic.

DLConn and UAX both have made proposals to serve PMD with support from LAWA.

I didn't read it as asking about this weekend. I understand it to mean that he is going there this weekend and it made him curious about any future plans for service.

Ontario to San Bernardino to Palmdale...oh my...

Let's see...Interstate 10 or state highway 60 to Interstate 15 north...to the merge with Interstate 215 (and the perpetual gridlock), halfway up the Cajon pass to highway 138, and across one of the most dangerous roads in California.

It's either that, or I-210 to I-5 (just north of the I-405 merge) to highway 14.

Now add in traffic.

Here's the most recent post on Palmdale airport and the possibility of service. The problem is, as I see it, is that there are no business centers in the Santa Clarita and/or Antelope Valley to draw business travellers (the main source of income for an airline) away from LAX.

Correct, I am flying in and out of LAX, and it's a nice excuse to stop by the ocean on the companies dime and time, but I'll be travelling fairly frequently to the Palmdale/Lancaster region from now on, so in the end, I'll get so sick of it that I will just want to get in and out and avoid the whole LAX metro area if possible

Thanks for all your responses folks. Sorry there was another thread about PMD recently, but since I wrote "Palmdale" instead of PMD in the search box, I didn't come up with it.

I use prefer Burbank when heading to Pamdale / Lancaster area and don't find the traffic too bad. Course it will be nice to be able to go right in. Being a midwesterner tops on my list is USAirways to PHX rather than some intra-California flying.

The guy I'm meeting there for work suggested I fly into BUR, but I had to get out on a redeye through Chicago to make it back to Kansas City for Saturday early afternoon, and that kind of ruled out BUR. If there still is no service to PMD for a while, I may do either Burbank or Ontario.
