Count me in, it looks great. I still like an MD11 wearing Varig's livery better, specially the tail section.

Even if I prefer the TAM A330,s it makes me happy to see these birds getting a new life and a new livery! I liked the Varig livery but it for sure looks good as the "Magic Red Carpet" too!

Amazing! That bird looks almost like it was brandnew. The visible bare metal parts looks as shiny as if they were almost freshly done and cooled. I guess the wait has paid off, despite all the problems.

Flights JJ8096/JJ8097 GRU-CDG-GRU six times weekly and JJ8087/8086 CDG-GIG-CDG one flight per week, currently scheduled to start 15th February.

From mid March also JJ8090/JJ8095 GRU-MIA-GRU.

Very nice to see one of them in the air again, and I agree that it looks as new. It would be too great if the cabin interior would look similarly new...

What a shame TAM insists on that booooooooring livery.

oh well, maybe one day they'll change it. I would have preferred to see the MD with the blue underside of Varig left in there  Smile

WOW, indeed one of the nicest MD11's ever flying. The TAM livery really fits the MD11!!! Congrats to TAM!!! Will this aircraft only be used on European flights or can we see it in MIA (or maybe even to AUA during high season) as well on regular basis? Good luck to TAM!! Big grin

What are the interiors going to look like? Will they have the same swissair created first class seats and flat business class seats as on the 332s?

Nice to see any MD-11 in passenger service. Such good looking planes...

I've always thought MD11 as one of the most beautiful a/c around, and though I think JJ livery is kind of boring, this mix looks gorgeus!

Thanks for the news,

The MD-11 sure looks great in the TAM livery, considering how weathered it looked in the Varig livery; all faded and dirty looking. Great plane I must say.

The MD-11 is one of a kind. It is the only modern trijet, and a true widebody. I never thought I'd see another pax MD-11 in new colors. Even though its temporary, it's great to see. Brazil has been a hot spot for MD-11s over the years. From the days of Vasp and RG to now TAM.  cool  It would be nice if TAM put one on the GRU-MIA route during the summer months.

Given by many of the posts on here, many, including myself, would jump at the chance to fly on the MD-11 while you still can. Catching a flight on one is very rare. And in two years the route will be back to A332s. Besides, how many A332s fly out of CDG on a daily basis? Exactly.  yes

Because the MD11 has more seats than the A332 and JJ8096 seems to be the flight with the highest demand plus there is the easy chance to swap aircrafts for the weekly maintenance flight to GIG. But I guess if it is not your ultimate goal to get a chance to fly on an MD11, you will probably try to avoid this flight from the 15th February on, especially when being in J class (there is no F on the A332 to CDG anymore).

You do not have to wait until summer. It will be there from end of March (if Boeing manages to deliver the 3rd MD11 on time...)

Please please please....... can we have the MD-11 back at LHR on
JJ8084 / JJ8085. I miss the MD-11 loads at Heathrow.

Don't get me wrong, TAM's 330's are nice too, but the MD-11 turns a lot more heads.

Luckily I managed to get on VARIG's MD-11 continuation service from LHR-CPH (RG8756/8757) shortly before it stopped, but I doubt TAM will be providing the same inter-European links.

Reverse.

As per Jog comments, higher demands and also, CDG is their only route where they fly 3 overnight flights, so you can fly with A332 from GRU or GIG and also M11 from GRU. If you use on LHR, JFK, MIA or even in the future MXP, customers will have no options.

Quoting TrijetsRMissed (Reply 24):

2 or 3 depending on the day. After Feb 15 will be 2 again plus 1 M11. 3 A332 i believe that only during the next 3 weeks, after that, they will use the M11 and in the future, for sure, the 77W.

To clarify, I was speaking for all airlines not just TAM. If you live in Paris, chances are you've flown on the A332 a few times. The MD-11 opportunity is quite rare. With NW, US, AF and others, I'm sure the number is close to 10 a day.

It is relatively young for a pax MD-11. I believe built in either '97 or '98. I don't think TAM plan to keep the trijets more than 2 years, unfortunately.

The M11s are expected to remain at TAM's fleet until the 77Ws are delivered by Boeing (mid 2008 IIRC).

As for this M11 in particular it was delivered to Garuda as PK-GIL at April,1997 after this plane became PP-VQJ with VARIG (oct 99) and now will be PT-MSH with TAM.

It's great to see the MD11 operating for another airline in latin america.

Unfortunately it wears one of the most BORING colors around, typical of the other big airlines in Brasil like Gol and Varig.

An MD11 in the colors of Fly, old liveries of Passaredo and Varig, Transbrasil, etc.. now that would have looked more brasilian and a sight to die for!

Its first scheduled longhaul flight will be tomorrow, February, 3rd on JJ8098 to CDG. Until the second MD11 arrives it will mainly do JJ8098/JJ8099, which continues to fly every second day.

However, this also means that MIA will be back on A332 for both GRU flights from tomorrow on and the "horror" of an A320 with a stop in MAO is over.

Great news, better for the JJ C customers that will have the A332 back to MIA on both flights.

The plane probably will depart GIG today or tomorrow morning/afternoon.
