Air India B777-237LR First Flight Will Be...

Sat Jan 27, 2007 3:13 pm

Tuesday 6 Feb as 'Boeing 011' if anyone's interested. It's due to deliver in April.

The first 3 Air India 777-337ERs will be as follows :

VT-ALJ 36308 testing as 'Boeing 826'
VT-ALK 36309 testing as 'Boeing 827'
VT-ALL 36310 testing as 'Boeing 828'

And no I don't know whether they will have PTVs nor what the seating config will be, nor do I care!  sarcastic

Couldn't find the old thread despite a vigorous search, but VT-ALA isn't actually white, it's a sort of cream colour judging by the recent pics of it. Don't know if this has been mentioned yet.  duck

a bit confused..

are you saying it's in the new livery but the fuselage is a cream color as opposed to the normal white?

I wonder if AI is planning to make all their 777's with that cream fuselage, if that's the case..

Might just be their new colors..?

I dunno, it could be my eyes but it doesn't look white to me.

If you have a look at this link, click on 'all sizes' and then 'original size' (you'll need to be logged in to Flickr to do this) you'll see the aircraft half way along the line. Granted, the sun is low and it's casting a huge shadow over that side of the ramp, but if you look closely you'll see that the Indian reg has now been taped over with a Boeing test reg for testing and there's a clear difference in the colour of the sticker (white) and the colour of the fuse. What do you reckon?

Cream on red. That does not sound good. Thats the color scheme of the MSRTC bus. Believe me that does not look good!

Hmm...you're right. I don't know exactly what to think. Maybe AI's new livery will consist of a "cream" fuselage much like PK's, which I find to be a classy, stylish color design.

P.S.- This is my 747th post!

Long Live the 747!  bigthumbsup

Thanks.

When compared to a "cream" fuselage like PK, it seems white. I think it's the angle the photo was taken and the light reflecting on the fuselage which is making it appear with a cream color. I think it's white, but who knows?

Nice pic.
I see the contrast with OS's 4th 777 which looks much sharper.VT-ALA looks like its light cream. Only benefit of that color is they may not have to clean it on the outside as often.  Wink

Maybe I should send the pic to Air France then, to give them some ideas?

That is actually correct--the fuselage is indeed cream and according to a very reliable source in AI is costing Boeing a lot of money.

I have some useful information about the first informal flight also from him of the AI 772 LR by March-

The first route is BOM-BGI---yes i said BGI----it will be for the cricket world cup.

Not sure about frequencies/and route path [one stop/ or non-stop] as of now.
I cannot be 100% sure but generally this source as always been correct.

The new Air India livery must look about like this (estimate!). Note: Lila Design did not create the new Air India livery but just made these temporary estimate illustrations to demonstrate the new paint design. Click on the images to magnify:

Why the cream color is "costing Boeing" ? Is the cost of painting the aircraft in the specific livery of the airline (be it strawberry-and-cream or euro white) not already factored into the negotiated price at the time of contract signing?

Wow - this would be a brilliant coup for AI, if they can use this flight to ferry the world cup crew over on a non-stop flight on their newest a/c! The team and coach can split between first and business, while the other "riff-raff" can be accommodated in Y Big grin

Almaharaja? Just Maharaja. Seems you were basing that name off the filename which is AImaharaja and I really doubt they'd put him on the outside of the plane like that. Anyways, if you look closely at the picture by Joe G. Walker posted above it looks like it is the centaur logo with the aircraft name below it. Now I can't be certain about the logo but it definitely looks like text on the bottom half.

I hope Air India to JFK is the first use of the 777-200LR. Air India should use the slots at LHR for nonstop service to India and serve the USA nonstop within a few years when the 777 are sufficient to do so, 744 should be used for Asia and Europe since these destinations are within a 744's range. The India-LHR-JFK route is a relic of 707 and Super Constallations.

I read somewhere that the -200LR would used on a new direct BOM-JFK flight starting in April but I don't know and I doubt if this is true? The flight is not on Amadeus.

To be honest, I dont see the need to Air India to suspend its AI 101-102 flight which is flown daily using a B 744 BOM-DEL-LHR-JFK. What needs to be done is to start and end that flight in DEL and not waste money flying the BOM-DEL-BOM sector on this flight. The reason why I proposed DEL-LHR-JFK is because BOM already serves the NYC market with its own dedicated flight to EWR flown daily via CDG with a B 744.

Air India's order consists of 23 777s, including eight B 772LRs, 15 B 773ERs and 27 Boeing 787-800s.

The B 773ERs are ideal for nonstop service from BOM / DEL to the U.S. East Coast and I would like to see a nonstop service launched from DEL to IAD in the near future with this aircraft.

I have a question concerning the 15 B 773ERs on order. Does Air India plan on phasing out its B 744s slowly once the B 773ERs arrive or do they plan to maintain a large fleet of B 744s alongwith the B 777s for at least another 7 years?

Can we expect a follow up order for B 773ERs in the distant future as a replacement for the B 744s?

FYI...PIAs B 772LRs seat 310 pax in a 2 class layout, EKs B 772LRs seat 266 pax in a 3 class layout, therefore it shall be interesting to see how many seats AI plans on installing in its B 772LRs and especially if it is a 2 class or 3 class cabin. I hope its a 3 class cabin with business, premium economy and economy as I dont see the need for them having a F class cabin.

Hii,As of now its plans are to phase out leased 744's with the arrivals of 773ER's..If m not mistaken.744's owned by Ai will remain in service and are likely to have interiors refurbished..PTV's etc.

Since it is planing to start services to new sectors the 773ERs are likely to fall onto those routes without disturbing the current routes operated by the 744's..Flights are chock-a-block on these sectors. May also fly their 777 on 744 routes with stop over to accomodate growing passenger traffic.

I'd call it more of an Ivory colour....but it's two glossy to be a 'cream'.

Whatever the colour, I think the overall effect is trës brilliant!
