Are you sure? The only flights I am aware of are codeshare flights operated by SK. SK will operate twice daily... I couldn't find any other flights to OSL operated by LX.

When I was at the airport (ZRH) today at about 11:00 all (or most flights) from Italy (MXP, FCO) were cancelled (LX, AZ and other airlines). Does anybody know what happened? Strike?

Edited: I saw on the Zurich airport page that only few flights from MXP, FCO and Venice were cancelled. Though surprising that at least five flights from Italy were cancelled today.

There's an ATC, handling agent and airport authority strike in Italy today.
2 of 3 flights to VCE, 3 of 4 to FCO and 8 of 9 MXP should be operating.

Thanks. I saw at least two FCO flight cancelled (LX and AZ). As I thought, a strike. I do not understand these people. They only fuck the passengers.

Another (for me interesting) observation today at ZRH: the CO and an AA flight both took off on r/w 28. I always thought that 28 with its 2500 meters is too short for a trans Atlantic flight. Probably they were not heavy loaded or is it always enough for a 767 (-200, -300)? Conditions today: sunny about 4 ° C, not much wind.

At GVA, CO B762s use less than the 2500m (about 2100-2200m) of ZRH rwy 28 to take off!

Just wondered why there is no codeshare on LG flights from Luxembourg to GVA. LG is a LH partner and they codeshare on all flights from Luxembourg to Germany. I just thought that it would be a matter of time until there would be a codeshare between LG and LX too but until now nothing happend. Any thoughts?

ZRH - Last week even a B767-400 took off from Rwy 28, thus with a climb angle reminding me of an Antonov 12... On the other hand, the Royal Jordanian A340-200 left on Saturday also via Rwy 28 and climbed like a rocket...

I don't see the logic in that. Why should LX have codeshare agreements with LG? Just because LH owns LX?

The A340's of LX flying to CAI and TLV depart out of Runway 28 almost every day. However it's a short flying time which means much less fuel. But I gues when weather conditions or / and Pax with Cargo are not high transatlantic flights are also able to take off from 28.

Yeah that was my thought LH owns LX and also has a share in LG. Also LG and LX have the same Frequent Flyer program.

Yes, LG is listed as a Miles & More airline partner. But still that doesn't mean that there has to be a codeshare agreement, it simply means that you can earn miles on LG routes if you're a member of M&M. JU operates daily flights between ZRH and BEG and has no codeshare agreements with LX.

I actually don't know exactly but I think it can't be too bad as they upgrade the flight to daily. They get quite a lot passengers from LH because they continue to SCL. A few months ago I was on a late evening flight GVA-ZRH. There was a huge group of French people who transferred in Zurich to the GRU-SCL flight.

Thanks in advance

Good opportunity to re-start the discussion about LX's future longhaul destinations.

I can very well see a third (and probably fourth, tag-on) south american destinations. What esle is in the cards? a new China route? PVG? PEK? CAN?
What about something really wild, like uhm, the caribbean or middle america? MEX? Or a new Asian route? or in the US? IAD?

Thoughts?

My guess goes to PEK! The most European Carrier leave PVG for PEK... and I think that's what LX will do.
Let's see what we will see in 2008, for 2007 they will first fly daily to every destination.

Definitively GIG out of ZHR. Not served directly by LH or AZ, so they could profit from good connections from Germany and Italy.

Apart from that I think that it is too difficult for LX to expand wisely because of its ties with LH and its huge network. Also I see ZHRs proximity to MUC as a problem, so LX should start looking for more long hauls from GVA (good benefits from its proximity to France and north Italy).

I can't really see either KIX or NGO working. Too much leisure traffic and not enough premium. As for India though, apparently, once AC receives some more B. 777, they're planning to do YYZ-DEL nonstop, which mean their YYZ-ZRH would already turn around in ZRH then. When that happens, SWISS is planning to operate the flight to DEL itself again.

As for any other destinations, more Africa and San Francisco were mentionned at the last staff briefing.

On a slightly different note, apparently SWISS is considering reintroducing First class on the entire medium- and long-haul fleet.

Although many people wish more LX long-haul routes out of GVA, this would make no sense regarding economical reasons. LX has almost no long-haul routes, neither out of ZRH nor out of GVA, which they can operate economically only with only O+D traffic (perhaps the only exception are the JFK flights). Therefore LX always needs transferring passengers. As they have their hub, which they feed from all over Europe, in Zurich, it is a must to start new long-haul routes there. Regarding LH it is obvious that LX only can start an new route with the permission of LH. Only routes which fit perfectly into the LH network. It seems that there are some which LH wishes otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to lease additional A 343.

More SFO? With UA now flying SFO-IAD-ZRH in codeshare with LX, i can hardly believe that LX will be returning to SFO, considering they never made money on that route when SR served it. But times have changed, and SFO being a UA hub, it might make sense to retry it. A 4x or 3x weekly rotation might work.

Not a bad move. F class means better yields, if they can fill it up that is.

As in the A340 they would only put in 8 First Class seats into all the A330 instead of the 12, which takes away less space and enables to fill it up easier. Interesting to see if LX will intorduce a new First Class seat as well soon, with the introduction of the refurbishment with a new Business Class + rest of cabin (+AVOD IFE I hope) on the A330 hopefully to start by fall.

Hi everybody,

Dubrovnik
Valencia
Palma
Zurich
appear on www.darwinairline.com destination and booking list. Their network becomes focused not only on LUG, but more on GVA, BRN and also ZRH. Those are not charter but scheduled flights. No official news yet, but all flights are bookable!
It seems they decided to buy the fifth Saab 2000 from Carpatair.
Wonder on how this enhanced capacity will be used the next winter!
Also Skywork should operate all charters from BRN this summer with a brand new Q400, this resulting in stealing the business to OD!
Anyone knows more?
