Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:25 am

I did post this one earlier, but due to a lack of response i decided to post it again with the word 'video' it the headline, in hopes of getting everyone to see this wonderful video of the retirement of WS's last 732.  Smile

Having flown all my WestJet flights on the -200's since 1996, it was very nice to see a tribute like that.

Thanks for sharing!

Hard to believe almost all of the 732's have been retired now from all North American carriers. DL unloaded the last of theirs last October, and WN has likewise retired all of theirs. Sad, but most of them are parked in the desert. Who still flies the 732?

Within Canada, only the 3 northern carriers: Canadian North, Air North, and First Air. I dunno about the US.

A good portion of them were scrapped, but a lot of them went to airlines in South America.

Brings back memories. Watching the thrust reversers fold out is awesome. I always tried to get a window seat just behind the wing on 732s, each landing looks, feels and sounds like it's the last one of your life!  Cool

I thought that the video was excellent and the choice of music was a perfect compliment to the video and what it was portraying. I always think that music makes a video more interesting and lets people know what the mood and feelings conveyed. The volume of the music was just right for what was being shown. I salute the 732 and hope that it will not go to the srapper but to another airline.  Sad

Thanks for sharing.

I saw that at the WestJet Birthday party in 2006 and at the end of the video there was a standing ovation to the tribute to the 737 workhorse.
Some employees had tears so it definetly was a moving tribute.

Here is perhaps the last picture of 748 taken before it was stripped of its paint later that day.

Calgary Intl Isn't actually as close to downtown as it appears in that video, though it does look very close from that angle. I've flown into YYC many times, and when on an approach to Rwy 34, you get an absolutely incredible view of downtown Calgary. If you fly in from the east it's even better and you fly a really nice base, right around downtown. It's very spectacular!

Excellent video! The song is by the band COLDPLAY, called FIX YOU and it's from the album X&Y. The lyrics are of great metaphorical value to this video, read them at http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/2147419799/Coldplay/Fix_You.

When the current YYC terminal building opened in 1977 or so, it increased the distance from downtown by at least 1/3 if not more. The old terminal was at the southwest corner of the airport, near the end of runway 34, as close as it could be to downtown. When flights departed on runway 34 it only took about 30 seconds to taxi to the runway. The new terminal at the extreme northeast corner of the airport near the end of runway 16 must be at least 3 miles further from downtown by road. I'm sure taxi drivers were happy when the current terminal opened as fares almost doubled.

YYC's runway 16-34 is the longest runway in Canada at 12,675 ft.

I think it has more to do with this line:
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

And this one:
High up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go

Maybe this one too:
Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace

Very appropriate song though.

I still miss seeing/hearing these old WS 732s flying over my NW Calgary home... the neighborhood seems so eerily quiet without them.

I have taken many journeys on the WS 732s, mostly to Vancouver & Prince George, and each trip was always great... who cares if they were cramped & noisy... a classic ride is a classic ride!  Smile
