Indeed Tarom mysteriously disappeared from SkyTeam's initial list of airlines to join the alliance as an associate member. Strong hints aired by Tarom reps not so long ago indicated that the Romanian airline was seriously contemplating on a last minute counter-offer from StarAlliance !!!! Let's not forget that Tarom is currently code-sharing extensively with Austrian Airlines on flights beyond Vienna to JFK
as well as flights operated by both Austrian/Tarom to VIE
out of Bucharest, Timisoara, Iasi, Sibiu (all Romania)
Based on their money-spinning cooperation me thinks that Austrian was quietly lobbying StarAlliance on behalf of Tarom's acceptance into StarAlliance.
But wait . . . maybe is more to this. It appears now that Tarom is actively seeking to dry-lease a few long-range aircraft and also bring back into operation its two stored A310-325.
I guees will have to wait and see if Tarom goes Sky or Star or . . . none.
