Lufthansa Cityline - CRJ-100 Upgrades?

Sat Feb 03, 2007 4:25 pm

Does anybody know if Lufthansa Cityline have upgraded any of their CRJ-100's to CRJ-200's?

Earlier this week I flew D-ACJD from FRA to DUS. According to every record I can find D-ACJD is a CRJ-100. But I'm sure Lufthansa had painted CRJ-200 on the side of the aircraft.

I've looked for recent photo's on a.net and myaviation.net. The latest one I can find which is clear enough was taken in April 2006 and it indicates that it has CRJ-100 painted on the side.

But I was wondering if CLH could have had them all upgraded since then.

As I understand the difference between a CRJ-100 and a CRJ-200 is the engine type.

On the other hand, maybe I was just tired after a longhaul flight from JNB and I misread what was on the side of D-ACJD.

Yes, as many other airlines also LH is upgrading the crj100 to crj200. The difference is not visible : it's an engine conf change.
crj100: GE CF34-3Aq

Thanks GB.

It's a shame that, because it means I still haven't flown on a CRJ-100.

Why? To enhance resale value? Or are the CF34-3B-engine simply more fuel efficient than the 3A? Or more durable too?
Come, fly the prevailing winds with me

I am not familiar with the exact details, but the upgrade means the aircraft are now more economical to operate and have got a greater range. a higher resale value is probably another benefit.

The CRJ-200 can operate with higher weights than the -100. This allows for more range, payload, alternate options, etc.

This is a case where more is almost always better.

With that said, I still am not a fan of the CRJ-200 and think that the -700 is a vastly better airplane.
