Very Cool FI 757 High Performance Takeoff Video

Mon Feb 05, 2007 5:48 am

Found this cool video of an FI 757 with winglets doing a short field high performance takeoff at RKV. Also some high-speed flybys.

Enjoy!

WOW...11 seconds. There must not have been any pax on it, but still amazing.
As long as the number of take-offs equals the number of landings...you're doing fine.

I've always liked 757's power ever since seeing them take-off on SNA's runway.

The video while great!, does not do the real thing justice....
To see something so large, go by you so fast is a hell of a RUSH!

I bet the guys up front flying the aircraft had a good time!

Is it me....or does that 757 still look as modern today as it did over 20 years ago!?

The media player timer indicates 14 from brake release to main gear break from the runway.....impressive in either case. From the audio of the first flyby in the opposite direction of the takeoff it is apparent that the takeoff was into a pretty stiff wind. It's amazing what feats you can pull off in an airplane with the proper planning and conditions.

I couldn't agree more as my user-name and signature suggest. The addition of winglets really keeps what is already an ageless profile up to date.

Flyboyseven: I would say it was empty. That took place at an airshow. I am watching the Super Bowl, so when I viewed the video, the jet was spooling up with brakes on, I turned to take a sip of beer, by the time I looked back it was in the air. It must have been a big sip. The 757, faster than a Bud.

Love the 757.

I wonder did boeing consider incorporating the 757s nose section and cockpit onto the 737-3/4/5 series for greater commonality across the range, allowing cross ratings on the 737, 757 and 767.

The 757 should still be in production.

A finer narrowbody has never been built, and likely won't be again.... what else can do that? Just such amazing versatility!

Actually, I've seen a 747-400 do a similar high angle climb out and low altitude flyby...with about a 40 degree bank angle on the turns. I've been in a 747-400 that was VERY light on take off and the climb performance left a few body parts on the ground...

MD90 can do the same thing...although it's clearly not as impressive.

Boeing and Rolls Royce appear to have created a rocketship... someone should call the FAA as they seem to be under the impression it's a civilian airliner.

That's a truly amazing performance.

Its not really the case that a finer narrowbody has never been built, rather the case that the 757 is exceptional at doing what it does best, using small runways with a good payload. Kind of like saying a porsche is a finer sportscar than a mustang. Well yeah it is but like the 757 its also more expensive. It WOULD still be in production if it was finer than the 737 or A320!

Excellent Videos but i think that if boeing put the GE90-115bs on a normal 772 that would be an impressive takeoff roll!!

Looking at that 744 footage of that short takeoff roll is incredible!!

Boeing did consider putting the 757 nose on the 737NGs due to slightly better aerodynamics, but the idea was ditched as operators wanted commonality with the 737 classics.

9 seconds? Surely not. Even the empty Icelandic 757 took 14. Now since its out of MIA, take a passenger and cargo load, tens of thousands of gallons of fuel, and a hot and humid climate into the mixture and it surely wont be lower than 14...

They did, it is called a lightly loaded 777-200LR. That is essentially what it is with a strengthened wing, winglets and undercarriage. Just because it has more fuel capacity doesn't mean it would have to be full for an airshow.

That is impressive but IMO it doesn't quite compare. That A319 is rolling quite fast when the video starts and it gets airborne about 12 seconds into the video. I don't think it can go from a standing start quite as quickly as that FI 757 did.

That 744 video is impressive as well, but it's 20 seconds from brake release to wheels off the ground. Keep trying.

Yeah, sure do. The A343 gets a bad rap on here because it's such a pig when it's loaded down. I've seen videos of the A343 doing some pretty incredible stuff during flight displays especially in the hands of Airbus test pilots. I just don't have them readily at hand and thought you might know where to find them. It's all good.
