AF/KL: How Long Before Miles Re-appear In Account?

Mon Feb 05, 2007 8:12 pm

I had to cancel an Award flight (before departure) booked on KL a while ago and the agent assured me that the miles originally spent would be transferred back to my account, as well as that I would get back most of the taxes etc (minus a handling fee of 40 EUR for the cancellation).
Neither my Flying Blue account nor my credit card show any of this yet.

Q: Does anybody have an experience about how long this process takes on AF/KL ("Flying Blue") ?
Or from which time on, I should start to worry about my 80,000 miles ?

Thanks in advance for any input,
Holger

Hello,

I would not worry about that,
You can contact them on their site.
You might get your credit back the month after. If no credit contact them.

I know there is Aneeter who works at Flying and could help you
but I don't remember his nickname !

Not myself, but I looked at the FAQ section in the Flying Blue section on my Air France website, and one of the FAQs was how long does it take for an activity to be credited to your account, the reply was 14 days for an "activité aérienne". You don't say exactly when you cancelled your ticket, but if it was more than 2 weeks ago I suggest you call Flying Blue (personally I always find them very helpful, but I know that not everyone shares my view !). The only similar experience I had was one time my account was debited for someone else's free ticket, and I took about 6 weeks for my account to be recredited.

It was AF454GRU, but it seems that he has left the site now, so we don't have an insider to help us now !

Hi, I had to cancal my flights last December. I call Flying Blue and they told me I will get my credit back in 3 days. I only got them 2 weeks later. I was really furious cause I wanted to use my miles for another date and it came back late for me to rebook the trip again.
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

They were pretty helpful whenever I contacted them.
When I re-booked the ticket (the one I had to cancel later), they even reserved seats for my longhaul flights (window seats facing north for AMS-IAH-AMS

FB staff offered to re-book me immediately, but at that time I had no definite plans for future travel ...

last year, I had a reward ticket in F class on CDG-ATL and due to an aircraft change after reservation, there were no more F seats on the A/C operating the return flight and I had to fly J for this leg. They called me to advise me about that and the miles corresponding to the difference betwen P and J class were re-credited on my account immediatly (same day). So I advise you to call them !!

On the first place you were able to book an award ticket. Congratulations (this is not easy with KL/AF)

I also had to cancel mine once but since I had a paper ticket I had to submit it back to any AF sales office to get the miles back. However it was not quick, I remember having to wait a few weeks

Good luck

did not seem so difficult, but award can be interesting, now 40 000 miles for CDG-NRT-CDG !! and 60 000 in bizzz...
I would go for biz at this fare. I made a simulation and I could get the award in bizz only

A shame I have no time to go to Tokyo visit my brother..

This is interesting - was your free ticket at the "Mini Miles" or "Opti Miles" rate ? The reason I ask is that, as I am certain you know, there are a limited number of places per flight at the Mini Miles rate (if I remember well it is 2 in F, and maybe just 2 in J as well), whereas at the Opti Miles rate (which is twice as expensive in terms of miles) there is no limit on the number of free places that are filled.

For me, I nearly always use my miles for free tickets (at the Mini Miles rate) to SXM or PTP in J, and I never seems to have any problem, even reserving quite late. I guess it must depend a lot on the destination.

Is there a special promotion right now, normally to Asia at the Mini Miles rate it is 120.000 miles ?

Thanks, I did not know about this part of the site, is it new (and is it updated on a regular basis) ?

I guess that the places are not easy to have, since they are reductions on the Mini Miles tarif and so also there is a very limited number of places in the flight ?

Hi!

I'm glad that someone came up with this topic. Well here is my question:

- I have around 13000 miles with CO and next June I'll be flying with KL/KQ/AF
to Congo and Kenya. I would like to know if it's possible to pass the miles of
my future flight to CO or vice-versa.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

It is often upadated, for availbilities, you just have to start a booking session (under your profile in the flying blue section) and see what comes up.
Create your profile on the site with your FB card number before

good trip

CV, you just need to give your Onepass card when you get you check-in since CO is part of Skyteam and will get the miles on your co account.

enjoy !

Thanks for this information !

To be honest, I always find it is very much easier to call FB and do everything by telephone, as the web booking is never very convivial or fast (unless there have been improvements recently).

80,000 Miles return in Business Class; originally KL 663 (BBJ) to IAH, return on a KL MD11 from SFO; return later (in December) changed to an earlier flight (by 1 week) out of IAH (KL 664, BBJ).
While I have a history of no-shows, this time major surgery (scheduled) to my mum was the reason for change and subsequent cancellation.

BTW, changing and also cancelling flights on WN is a breeze ! They really impressed me with their online tool. Never have seen such a good tool in a European LCC or legacy carrier ...

salut dernier virage !
yes, it depends on the destination and period of the year. By example, for the USA in general you need to book very far in advance but I booked one month ago without pb a ticket in J class to ORD for next week for a friend wedding (as ORD in february is not a "recommended" period  cold   cold   cold  !!). But early december, I tried to book a ticket for Vietnam in may (busy period) and couldn't get a seat in J whatever the date in mini-miles. However, there were seats available in Y.
Also an information useful for some people who are may be not aware of it : Gold and Platinum FB members benefits of more allocated award seats (mini miles) than regular (ivory) members

Bonsoir, on se retrouve à nouveau !

That is very very useful news (I am FB Platinum), I had no idea that there was a preferential allocation, and certainly it has never been mentioned to me by Flying Blue......

That said, the FB system seems to me generally less easy to check that in the previous years of Frequence Plus - for example, I was interested to see HT's reply above, as he reserved his US trip on the "Mini Miles" basis, but was able to have a mileage refund on cancellation, which I thought was only possible on the "Opti Miles" basis. Good news for HT of course !

Yes, the letter-class of reservation (I mean A, O, Z, X, etc) is not the same within the same class of service (P/J/Y) for gold/platinum members. I learned that a few years ago when booking award tickets to YUL (in august, so at a busy period of the year) at the same time for me and family members. I'm platinum and my relatives were ivory (every persons were booking the flight on their own card), and for the selected dates, the AF employee told me that I could get a seat due to my status but not my relatives. So we changed our dates of travel.

Yes, it's true. It was already possible for several years to change the dates of a trip booked in mini-miles (but keeping the same routing) by paying a small fee (like 40 or 50 Euros, I think) but now it is also possible to cancel (by paying also a small fee) and have a complete refund of miles. This is a very good improvement.

In general, I think it's not too hard to book an award flight (mini miles) on AF/KL if you book enough in advance. However, you may not have the class of travel you wish. But what I found very hard, not to say impossible, is to book a skyteam award ticket including a connection on a skyteam carrier, especially in the US. By example, if you want CDG-MSY via ATL, it seems that DL never allocates seats on the domestic leg. I experienced this several times where finally I took the award ticket on CDG-US gateway on AF and I purchased the onward flight ticket to DL. This is disappointing.

3 weeks now and still no sign of my miles and my money.
So I called FB a few minutes ago and the agent told me that the ticket indeed had been cancelled, but the "process to credit back miles & money had been sent into a wrong direction".  Confused She stated that miles should be in my account within 48 hours from now.

Okay, the clock is ticking  Wink

Strangely enough that agent for the first time was trying to update my profile and asked for a contact telephone number (none of the previously contacted agents had asked for this).

As soon as this issue has been solved, Iikely will have to give FB another try, as I will have to cancel another (shorthaul) award-flight to CWL in late April ...

To continue this story ...:
After another 13 days, I called FB again yesterday and asked for my miles & money ...
No explanations from their side this time what might have gone wrong.
Same promise again, that they would take care of it and that I should receive a confirmation E-mail as soon as everything is taken care of (within a few days).

And I dared to cancel also the flight to CWL in April on that very telephone call (as I will fly on a paid ticket at that time to IAD in WBC).
Let's see what happens to that cancellation in terms of miles & money.

Something happened tor that cancellation ...:
FB called me today informing me that my creditcard-number would not be accepted by their system. Strange, but I gave them another one, é voila 10000 miles are already back in my account.

10,000 down, still 80,000 to go.

Final status info:
I called FB today again (this was the 4th time) and I got the same agent as during call #3. He still could remember the problem and after he had been off-line for about 5 minutes (apparently while checking with collegues or other department), 2 things happend:
1. They instantly re-credited that 80,000 miles to my account.
2. He told me that the problem would be that FB was unable to re-credit the taxes etc. to my Credit Card. It turned out that they would not accept ANY of my Credit Cards but insisted on a actual bank account (was no problem with the other cancellation to use a CC); I was told that I should have received a letter about this requesting the bank account-details, but nothing has shown up in the last 10 days.

The agent apologized several times during that call for them not having been able to solve the problem.

Bottomline:
Miles are back (that was the more important part) and those 150 EUR hopefully will follow.
If wasn't for me calling FB again and again, all would have been lost.
I positively continue to believe them that this was a single (technical) problem and is not a sort of way to gain revenue at AF / KL.

Just my experience,
