AF 77W Seat Pitch

Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:44 pm

I was fortunate enough to have been upgraded to an AF 77W flight from JFK-CDG (my original itinerary was DTW-CDG but my connection to DTW got cancelled so they rerouted me to JFK, definite upgrade) but i was wondering what the seat pitch was in Y class on the 77W.

It was the best flight I have had to date, simply amazing.

Seatguru is wrong. Only centre rows in Y cabin C are at 32". The rest are at 31". AF standard Y pitch is 31". Same as LH, KL and BA.

The seat pitch in Y on AF B777 (-200ER & -300ER), A332, A343 is 32".
It is 32" or 31" at certain rows in the B744.

Hi all - Does anyone know if the 744s between JFK & CDG have PTVs? Is it the luck of the draw? Thanks!

Ia Orana all !

All 747-400 have PTV's on the upper deck. Only F-GITH/ITI/ITJ have PTV's in Y on the main deck.
Air France rotates the aircrafts on all routes served by the 744 and it will be pure luck to get one on any given route on any given day !
You can always come very very early and request an upper-deck seat and have PTV's and better leg room (36" if I remember correctly).

Happy Flying,

Are the acutal seats on the 77W different then other AF aircraft. I remember when i would recline the seat would move forward a little bit and the back of the seat seemed to lean far.

I have a major gripe with the 77W in that the older models of the new Premiere seats tend to break down very frequently. I had a poor experience in December where my otherwise very luxurious seat malfunctioned and wouldn't recline. Due to a completely full flight I had to suffer in the seat for the entire 9+ hour ride. Speaking with other AF frequent flyers, this is a common problem on the 77W.

The Affaires seats are a lot more sturdy and I know that I would prefer to book that instead in the future, if only to be assured that I can recline and get some sleep. Sad that AF is actually losing premium revenue because of this...

Thanks so much for the info, AF Cabin Crew. Why is it that only three of the aircraft (airfleets.net indicates an AF 744 fleet of 22) have PTVs on the main deck?

This is a new type of seat that is progressively introduced in Y on all the aircraft of the fleet.

AF operates 16 B744 (PAX version).
The 3 last aircraft (F-GITH/TI/TJ) delivered in the early 2000 are all equipped with PTV in Y (Y Upper deck + Y main deck)

When the other aircraft were modifed from 3 Classes to 2 Classes, PTV were installed at the Upper deck only because Upper deck used to be Business Class and all the Electric systems and wires required were already there, but fitting PTV in Y on the main deck would be too costly both in money and time of immobilisation of the aircraft.

Note that in June 2007, two B744 will retired from the fleet to be converted in full Freighters (F-GISA & F-GISB). A third aircraft will follow in 2008, leaving AF with a fleet of "only" 13 B744.

It is 32" or 31" at certain rows in the B744.

It is not possible to get 14 rows of seats at 32" pitch between doors 4 and 5 on the 77W/773 or between doors 3 and 4 on the 772. BA, NH plus many others have the same problem.

Yes, this is correct. I had the same type of seat on my IAH-CDG flight earlier in January, very comfortable. The CDG-IAH leg in December, however, was on a 332, and it had the older-style Tempo seating, which still was quite comfortable. All in all, I'd say that Air France has a very good Y product.
