JAL To Cut 4300 Jobs

Wed Feb 07, 2007 7:40 am

Just got this off the wire.

I wonder where this is going to take the carrier? I was totally unaware of the safety lapses the article mentions.

You wonder why they didn't have cuts earlier when they were already in the red.
Just goes to show management has no clue to compete with the mighty ANA.

You mean like when JAL moved their North American HQ to LAX and the "might ANA" moved for no other reason than the fact that JAL did? JAL had expired leases in New York and San Francisco, and w/available space, El Segundo was chosen. Additionally, at the end of the US business day you could communicate w/Tokyo as their day started. ANA didn't even to a cost study - they just upped and moved. This was told to me by someone who used to be a top manager w/them.

JAL management continues to show they are absolutely unable to regain control of their bloated, inefficient, and slow to change organization.
If you need someone to blame / throw a rock in the air / you'll hit someone guilty
