They tried doing this in ACC and failed. i dont see any demand for LFW-USA flights. Many of togolese nationals drive to ACC to catch flights. Even MEA have a special mini bus transporting passengers between Accra and Lome

Lome, Accra, Dakar, Lagos...all stepping off points from Africa to North and South America. Sounds like an interesting move on ET's behalf. Good for them. Use an underutilised airport that others are not and set up a hub.

When ET gets the 787, should be more service to more points west.

If ET starts LFW-USA this will become a major trasit point for narcotic drugs bound for the USA as security is minimal at LFW (air and sea)

Not sure it makes economic sense. Sounds like a temporary political move following Togolese President's visit to Ethiopian Headquarters.

ET will probably make LFW the stop over on the IAD flights instead of FCO. If they cab base several 737 at LFW they can bring passengers from all over west Africa to feed the IAD flight. IAD is going up to 6 x a week begining the summer schedule

The political situation in Togo is very volatile. Half of the time it seems like all borders are shut down due to some kind of governmental dispute.

Does ET have enough aircraft to cover its plans to grow out of ADD? Aren't 767s hard to find these days, flight crew hard to retain, and more? Also, I'd think that the IAD route is doing alright as it is now, given that they are to increase it to 6x without the 5th freedom. This has me being skeptical about Lome, and if it indeed happens, quite ambitious. The already announced plans are ambitious enough...

Capital has reported on many possible developments at ET over the years, citing ET execs, including Lusaka, Botswana(?) and some other place. If it happens, great, we'll just wait and see. A few weeks ago, they mentioned a certain partnership between ET and LH, which looked speculative:

Quote:
Ethiopian Airlines is going to sign a partnership agreement with Lufthansa next week.

The long awaited partnership on code sharing procedures has been negotiated by the two parties for a long time.
If the negotiations bear fruit, the two airlines would co-operate in many areas of the airline business, which they expect will make them more competitive.

This article, along with its entire issue is no longer available on the paper's website, but this blog site has a copy (dkny, I know you can't read it from Addis :{ ) Smile
