Jazeera Airways, Second Hub= DXB!

Jazeera Airways establishes second hub in Dubai

Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways K.S.C, the Middle East's first and only private scheduled airline, today announced the establishment of a second hub in Dubai, making it the only low-fare airline operating out of Dubai International Airport.

The airline, which flies a brand new fleet of Airbus A320s powered by new CFM engines and fitted with all-leather seats, launched the new hub with direct flights from Dubai to Bahrain, Kuwait, Mumbai, Kochi, New Delhi, Muscat, and Salalah.

DXB is getting more and more congested! I think this move is a total mistake as Jazeera Airways is brand sparkling new, and having two hubs will increase costs by a lot! Look at GF and what happened to them over the years.

Umm... economies of scale, operational efficiencies. More passengers = more ancillary revenue. Blah.

EXPAND OR DIE!

Now that we've agreed that expansion, either organically or externally, is essential for survival, what must be asked is: is it sensible expansion? Will it pave the way for profit?

Errr, not quite! It was established in 2004. It has also built a decent network of flights from its KWI base. And its brand-awareness is always increasing.

It won't building a hub at DXB. It'll be building a base based on point-to-point flying, just like it does from its KWI base. And I suspect, if it prices its flights similar to those from KWI, it'll be very popular: flying to/from DXB within the Middle East is almost always very expensive (e.g. return all-in with EK in April to BAH with a flight time of just over 1 hour is 362 GBP, and 192 GBP to DOH which is a flight of less than 1 hour). The only issue I presently have is its intention to fly to BOM - a very popular route but one on which there is considerable competition. Will that be profitable? Who knows? What will Air Arabia's impact from its near-by SHJ base be on it?

Beginning point-to-point ops from DXB makes sense when you take into account the large number of low-income expats that live there. Air Arabia and AIX have been doing well from SHJ and DXB respectively. Jazeera could very well become a viable option as their visibility is increasing.

You're right, which is why Air Arabia is doing well on inter-GCC flights. Jazeera too should do well there.

Yeah maybe not BOM, but they should do well if they can fly to COK, TRV etc both Air Arabia and AIX do rather well on these routes.

cheers

I don't think Al Jazeera Airways is doing a mistake. They are preparing for the future.... and DXB and JXB is the future. Once JXB is ready with the LLC terminals, I am sure Al Jazeera will transfer their flights to that hub. DXB will be more for Emirates.

I truly believe that Al Jazeera will not be the only LLC to start a hub out of Dubai. I can see atleast 3 to 4 more LLC's starting hubs in JXB in the future... remember them last statisics said that airline industry is set to more than double in the Middle East by 2015

I disagree. They will be operating on a low cost model and will be tapping into a huge market. The biggest losers will be Air Arabia who no longer will have an edge with their hub being 20kms and at times a hiddious drive away.

Would a Virgin franchise work in this region? may be Air Arabia could go into a deal with them.

Can 'Dubai Intl Airport' and 'congested' be used in the same sentence? I didn't think that was possible. You just gave DXB's gov't ammo to build a new 345 gate terminal, with 10 new runways..

How would it work with the bilaterals? It's not like Europe where you have open skies.

I think this is a good move. Everybody is saying, ''DXB and EK, they're setting themselves up for failure'', however EK can be expensive for short flights in the Gulf, and clearly Jazeera have seen the potential to grow. Good for them! EK isnt the be all and end all, and airlines CAN compete againts them effectively whilst making money!!!

Inter-Gulf fares are very high but you don't (or didn't) have any option. QR DOH/BAH for a 15 minute flight is QR720 ($198) and all 5 daily flights are full.

I used to fly BAH/DXB on EK and swapped to Air Arabia as far cheaper plus SHJ is nice and quiet compared to the DXB crush.

I often noticed the Jazeera check-in queue at BAH in the evening was far longer than KU's and hopefully Jazeera will take a lot of this intra-Gulf traffiic.

Will be interesting to see how EK,GF,EY and QR react....

I too was wondering how it'll work regarding the fact that Jazeera isn't a U.A.E.-based airline. Will it establish a subsidiary, like Thai AirAsia and Indonesia AirAsia?

Incidentally:

I can't wait for CAI to FINALLY open its doors to discount airlines.  Big grin

I wonder when Jazeera will begin KWI-JED, -RUH and -DMM flights.

Vigin's subsidiaries do not need that decal that would offend some cultures Virgin Nigeria dont have it, Virgin America wont if they start flying, Pacific Blue dont, Virgin Express didnt, Virgin Sun didnt, Virgin Blue didnt initially it was added much later.

As a matter of fact there's, that's how JZR are starting DXB operation.

DMM is already out there this month, but via KWI.

I think they'll be doing well, specially with the promotion they do every now and then, like 4 K.D (49 AED) offer they used to celebrate the new hub.
