FlyBE Takeover Of BA Connect - Is It Going Ahead?

Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:52 pm

It has all gone very quiet on this issue recently. Is it actually still going to happen?

I am interested from a purely selfish point of view, I want to know who will be flying MAN - BRU/FRA/MAD/DUS this coming summer!

The latest I heard was that the deal was supposed to be signed on the 1/2/07 but was delayed. It is now expected to go though in "mid-Februrary".

It would be very silly for flybe or British Airways to pull out of this merger at such a late stage. Both airlines have put a huge amount of time, money and effort into the merger, and without it, flybe will have a weaker summer programme and BA Connect potentially will be closed down. The major hurdle seems to be the human resource relations, with BACON staff not too pleased with the contracts that flybe staff are on, or on reverting to turboprop aircraft.

I fear that too! I certainly don't want to do all my European travelling from MAN on turboprops!

What's up with the DHC8-400, a turboprop maybe but much removed from other turboprop short haulers and are you not aware of FlyBe's Embraer orders?

Don't BAC operate 8 dash-8s?

They do, but not many of them I believe. They are mostly a jet operator.

On the contrary, a significant part of BE's operations are prop, abeit new Dash 8s.
