question about BA reservations system

I tried to book BA CW from JFK to London for 13 July but BA says that there are no C class seats for BA 112 - only more expensive J is available.

However, when I look through Availability Tool Apollo, WorldSpan and Galileo all show availibility in C and D and even I for some flights. How come BA's own reservation system does not show C availibility???

I'm not sure in this particular situation, but just because the seats are available doesn't mean they are willing to sell them. Maybe they keep one or two for other reasons.

If it's not showing up in the BA system (Amadeus) but it is showing up in another GDS it could be that the GDS is out of synch with Amadeus or doesn't have "Direct Access" into Amadeus. What sometimes happens then is that when you end the booking, it'll look like it booked but when Amadeus gets the booking it may reject it. The booking status code would go from "SS" to "HK" to "UN".

Just one possibility.

Same with American Airliners. I purchase two tickets from BA for AA flights from LAX to JFK. BA told me that they gave me the last two seats in I inventory for the whole day of 8 July. However, when I go AA's website it seems like they have I seats for each flight that day. Could it be that there is something wrong with BA's system?

Availability displays can vary from region to region. The availability that someone based in the UK can see could be quite different to what someone based in France (or other random country) can see. It ultimately boils down to revenue management protecting yields and maximising revenue from different markets. The internet can make this a more difficult exercise.

BA's system is straight from Amadeus, so any quirks or discrepancies should be common to any other airline/TA using Amadeus.
