Air Arabia New Fleet, New Opportunity For Boeing

Sat Feb 10, 2007 8:40 pm

Air Arabia plans to spend up to $2bn on 34 new planes following its IPO this year, reported Bloomberg. It was reported last month that the budget carrier was eyeing 25 new Airbus A320s at a cost of $1.6bn. But CEO Adel Ali told the news agency the airline needs to replace its existing fleet of nine leased aircraft; Air Arabia is talking to Airbus and Boeing over the order.

Seems a renewed opportunity for Boeing now that Arabia decided it wants to renew it´s entire fleet.

I think that the only logical thing is to have a single manufacturer fleet. ....
So Airbus again.

Bloomberg got it wrong. They are planning an expansion TO 34 frames not an expansion of 34 frames.

He continued: "Based on both the individual success of Air Arabia and the growing demand for commercial and leisure travel in the region, we are planning to expand the companys current operating fleet over the next five years from nine Airbus A320s to a total of 34 aircraft."

As for an opening for Boeing there is almost none. Air Arabia, from what I was told, have already inked longterm service contracts for 320s specifically that would be hard and expensive to get out of.
