AC And The B787

I believe AC is scheduled to receive its first of 14 B787-8s in 2010. AC planned to extend the life of its B763ERs by refurbishing the interior and adding winglets to increase performance and efficiency. The XM program is slowly under way, but it would appear the B777 "style" interior and winglets have been dropped from the program.

The B787 delivery slots maybe fast disappearing as some large orders may be placed later this year. When is AC planning on firming some of its B787 options? The 14 787s on orders would only replace a small portion of AC's B767 international fleet. Milton also expressed interest in the B787-9 as a replacement for the A333s. It would seem like the bulk of the B767s will be flying past 2012, or does AC plan to reduce its fleet of B767 sized aircraft in the future?

The B787 will look pretty sharp in AC's colours.

Air Canada has firm options that could grow its order to 60 787s. Some of these are tied to specific delivery dates (meaning they are guaranteed slots on the production line), and will have to be firmed up by a specific date, in each case. However, don't expect the airline to make any commitments until just before the conversion deadline date for each optioned aircraft. As soon as you convert an option into a firm order, you have to begin making progress payments on that aircraft. There is no incentive for making the conversion earlier than necessary.

I'd imagine AC will want to keep the 767-300ERs as long as possible. The 767-200s, only 4 or 5 left will undoubtedly be the first to go followed by the 762ERs.

Yes I think the 787-9 would be a good replacement for the A333.

AC has 2 762 (non-ER) and 9 762ER in service. Total 11.

The 2 762 and 2 of the 762ER date from the early 80's. The other 7 762ER were delivered new to AC in 1987/88.

Some of the 763 date from the late 80's, others are much newer.

As such, the AC 767 fleet is of varying age and there will be many years of overlap or combined 767/787 ops at AC.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I do believe AC will exercise their options for additional 46 but don't know when. It would be nice to see two different versions of B787-8 and B787-9.
